Textile waste is a growing global challenge. Syre’s mission is to decarbonize and dewaste textiles, starting with the world's biggest fiber, polyester. By implementing true textile-to-textile recycling at hyperscale, we want to drive the transition from a linear to a circular value chain by putting textile waste to use, over and over again.
Syre is now looking for a Process Engineering & Maintenance Manager for our Blueprint Facility in Cedar Creek, NC. The role will be responsible for optimizing, improving, and developing our mechanical and chemical processes within our production facility. This role is key to driving operational efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering innovation in our manufacturing operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards in safety, product quality, and process efficiency.
You will play a key role in designing and building up our operational readiness for the operation of the Blueprint plant. In addition, you will be part of the team preparing the organization for future expansion, including potential international travel.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of process engineers in chemical plant operations and process optimization.
- Analyze current processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement and innovation.
- Develop and implement chemical process designs, including scaling up new processes from lab to production.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of new processes.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to process efficiency, product quality, and safety.
- Lead root cause analysis for process failures and implement corrective actions.
- Manage capital projects related to process upgrades, expansions, and new technology integration.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in chemical engineering technology.
We would prefer if you
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or other related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in chemical process engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes, equipment, and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Proven experience in process optimization, continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean), and project management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or equivalent).
- Experience managing capital projects is a plus.
You will be reporting to the Plant Manager, Cedar Creek with a dotted line to our COO. The role is based in Cedar Creek, NC area and is a full-time on-site role with occasional travel to our Mebane, NC site as well as international travel.
