We’re now looking for an experienced Chemical Process Engineer to join our growing Technical team in Mebane, NC. The primary tasks will be process design and innovation plus day-to-day operations engineering support for both our R&D pilot line and our commercial scale manufacturing process (being built and starting up in 2025).

Key tasks and responsibilities

• Participate as part of a team and lead elements of scaling from pilot to commercial scale an advanced textile chemical recycling process, including recommending and designing chemical process unit operations and equipment.
• Design process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), perform mass and energy balance calculations, and conduct hydraulic calculations.
• Transform theory into practice – owning the entire process from creating P&ID to identifying the right equipment and procuring it.
• Independently specify pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, and other equipment related to the processes.
• Select safety devices and manage crucial process safety activities.
• Provide day to day engineering support and process improvement and optimization of R&D pilot line operations and eventually for the startup of the commercial blueprint operation in 2025.
• Contribute to new process innovation, scaling, and optimization via design, prototyping, and trialing of new R&D technology concepts from lab to pilot and pilot to commercial scales.
• Participate as a key member of the commercial blueprint plant capital project team for construction, startup, ramp up, and optimization.

We would prefer if you have/are

• B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 5+ years of industry experience with chemical manufacturing processes.
• Fundamental understanding of and ability to reduce to practice chemical engineering concepts like heat transfer, fluid mechanics, solids handling and mass transfer.
• High level understanding of chemical processes and the industry as a whole, transforming that knowledge into appropriate process technologies.
• Extensive and proven experience providing engineering and design support of industrial chemical processes, with a track record of optimizing and improving chemical processes and increasing production output / capacity.
• A good understanding of chemical plant operations, including raw material feedstocks, process control and optimization, mass/energy balances, product quality, and associated KPIs.
• Demonstrated experience specifying process plant equipment based on project needs with hands-on experience in selecting equipment. (RFQs)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a collaborative team-oriented approach.
• Impact-oriented with a strong drive to get things done, deliver results, and optimize for speed globally (= start-up experience and mentality).
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization, from process operators to other engineers and managers to senior leaders.
• Fluency in English both orally and in writing (professional English required).

You will be reporting to the Plant Planning & Engineering Director and should be located in (or willing to relocate to) Mebane, NC.
