Then, join Syre's Technology team in the greater Raleigh, NC area as a Polymer Chemist/Material Scientist. You'll lead multiple research projects from lab to pilot to commercial scale aimed at developing and commercializing polymer technologies for textile to textile advanced recycling. You'll follow emerging technologies in the field while collaborating with brands, customers, suppliers, and partners to deliver meaningful circular polymer and fiber solutions to the apparel, automotive, and home interiors textile markets. Key tasks and responsibilities
- Lead multiple research projects that investigate minimizing polyester textile waste; including advanced recycling, polymerization, and yarn spinning
- Steer the technical work of our BS level laboratory researchers
- Identify gaps in research and follow emerging technologies in textile-to-textile advanced recycling
- Disseminate scientific results to internal and external stakeholders and research collaborators
- Routinely interact with brands & customers to discuss scientific methods and data
- Develop new intellectual property
- Technically support translation of R&D efforts into scalable commercial processes and products
- Work collaboratively as part of an international interdisciplinary team
We would prefer if you
- PhD in polymer chemistry, chemical engineering, textile engineering. material science, or a related technical field, with a strong academic record
- Preferably 2-5+ years of industry or equivalent post-doctoral experience
- Knowledge and experience with polymer systems, including polymerization and structure-property characterization
- Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC, ICP, DSC, TGA) and analytical methods to measure material physical & chemical properties
- Fiber science, yarn spinning know-how, and industrial scale up experience are bonuses
- Highly motivated and detail-oriented researcher
- Are fluent in English both orally and in writing (professional English required)
You will be reporting to the CTO and preferably be located in North Carolina, USA.
