Chemical Process Engineer (Silicon)

At GREEN14, we are redefining sustainable raw material production with our groundbreaking hydrogen plasma technology. You’ll join a passionate team dedicated to creating a greener future.

We are looking for an experienced Chemical Process Engineer with a strong background in silicon and/or silane production technologies to join GREEN14 and help revolutionize sustainable silicon production through hydrogen plasma technology.

At GREEN14, we are developing cutting-edge technology to produce high-purity silicon, an essential material for solar cells, semiconductors, and next-generation battery anodes. As part of our Process Engineering team, you will play a key role in scaling up and industrializing our silicon production process from pilot to factory-scale, ensuring successful technology implementation and optimization.

Key Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

  • Lead process design, scale-up, and industrialization of silicon production, including handling and purification systems.
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers, equipment suppliers, engineering contractors, and production teams to ensure smooth integration of the technology into full-scale production.
  • Lead vendor selection processes, including technical evaluations, inspections, FATs, and SATs for equipment related to silicon production.
  • Ensure all chemical processes conform to safety, environmental, and technical requirements, with a strong focus on process safety and risk assessments (HAZOP, SIL).
  • Develop and review technical documentation, including process diagrams, equipment specifications, and commissioning plans.
  • Lead commissioning and start-up activities for silicon production lines, ensuring efficient handover to the operations team.
  • Drive systematic problem-solving initiatives and establish best practices for continuous improvement in silicon production processes.
  • Implement best-in-class safety, environmental, and quality standards for silicon production under pressurized and inert conditions, ensuring compliance with ATEX and the Pressurised Equipment Directive.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong experience in gas separation and purification or silane (MCS, STC, TCS) production or utilization.
  • Experience in polysilicon production, particularly with CVD reactors or Siemens process.
  • Familiarity with Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR) technology and hydrochlorination for silane production.
  • Expertise in Czochralski crystal growth or Float Zone processing for semiconductor-grade silicon.
  • Familiarity with waste valorization and materials purification in silicon production.
  • Knowledge of automation and AI-driven process control in chemical or materials production, with experience optimizing complex chemical processes.
  • Experience in semiconductor-grade silicon quality control, metrology, and characterization techniques.
  • Advanced understanding of gas handling systems and safety protocols for pyrophoric gases under ATEX guidelines.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of industrial process engineering experience, ideally in the production and utilization of silicon or silane (MCS, STC, TCS).
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or a similar field.
  • Experience in the design and scale-up of chemical production facilities (brownfield/greenfield), especially in silicon production or gas handling systems.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical reactors, scrubbers, material handling, and equipment commissioning.
  • Familiarity with risk assessments such as HAZOP, SIL, and ATEX compliance.
  • Hands-on experience in overseeing the commissioning of chemical production equipment and processes under inert and pressurized conditions.
