The Senior Director, Methodology is responsible for designing, maintaining, and evolving the underlying methodologies for all Glass Lewis research and analytics products, including proxy voting perspectives, compensation models, climate, engagement, and analytics (such as shareholder voting predictions). This role collaborates closely with relevant business, product, and technology teams and ensures that all methodology frameworks are analytically rigorous, empirically grounded, transparent, and defensible to clients, regulators, and issuers.
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in economics, finance, public policy, political science, statistics, law, or related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in financial research or ratings methodology.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership in methodology, including significant experience building, scaling, and leading high-performing teams (hiring, coaching, performance management, and organizational design)
- Demonstrated experience designing analytical frameworks, scoring models, or decision methodologies.
- Exceptional stakeholder management: ability to collaborate with and constructively challenge subject matter experts.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex methodologies clearly and precisely.
- Design and maintain formal research methodologies.
- Define decision criteria, thresholds, and scoring logic.
- Ensure methodologies are consistent and logically coherent.
- Establish clear assumptions, limitations, and applicability boundaries for each methodology.
- Ground methodologies in empirical research, best practices, academic literature, and observed market outcomes.
- Regularly review methodologies in light of new data, market evolution, regulatory change, or client needs.
- Collaborate with business teams to translate methodologies into clear language that can be operationalized by internal teams and understood by external stakeholders.
- Produce detailed methodology documentation, including rationale, decision logic, examples, and edge-case handling.
- Support the drafting of disclosures and methodology summaries for clients and regulatory audiences.
- Partner closely with business teams, product, technology, and legal/compliance teams to ensure methodologies are practical and implementable.
- Incorporate requirements from business teams based on their knowledge of global trends, evolving client expectations, and regulatory developments.
- Support internal training to ensure consistent application of methodologies.
- Test methodologies against historical cases to assess consistency, bias, and unintended consequences.
- Support responses to clients and regulators by explaining methodological foundations and decision logic.
- Identify methodological risks, ambiguities, or gaps and recommend refinements.
- Support team lead in building and leading the methodology team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
- Support team lead in setting clear team priorities, standards, and governance/review mechanisms (e.g. approval workflows, documentation standards, change control) to ensure high-quality, timely, and consistent outputs.
