Emergent is a global nonprofit working to mobilize public and private finance to conserve and restore the world’s forests in the fight against climate change and ecosystem loss. We serve as an intermediary between the private sector and forest nations, acting as a market catalyst to deliver transformational impact for the climate, biodiversity, and Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

Emergent purchases high-integrity carbon credits from ‘jurisdictional’ REDD+ programs – national or subnational forest protection and reforestation programs that are verified to rigorous standards such as ART TREES. We sell these credits to corporate buyers and donor governments looking to drive significant impact and meet their climate and nature goals. We are also working with forest nations to issue and market credits for compliance programs such as CORSIA and various national carbon tax plans. Emergent’s LEAF Coalition is a unique public-private partnership focused on ending and reversing tropical deforestation. By bringing together forest governments, the private sector, donor governments, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and civil society, LEAF aims to raise and deploy the finance needed to tackle deforestation by making tropical forests worth more standing than cleared.

The Role

Emergent is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President, Corporate Sales to lead our efforts in expanding corporate participation in the LEAF Coalition and other high-integrity carbon market transactions. The successful candidate will develop strategic partnerships that accelerate forest finance and gain influence and access through thought leadership and relationships. The VP will oversee a global sales strategy, with a personal focus on driving sales in Europe. Our ideal candidate has a deep network in the corporate climate community and is passionate about driving corporate climate finance towards nature-based solutions.

The VP will report to the Chief Commercial Officer, driving growth in our distribution to corporate buyers, and contributing to management decision-making. This is a full-time, hybrid role, ideally based in London or Barcelona. This role will involve periodic travel (10-20%).

Responsibilities

  • Lead outreach and engagement with corporate sustainability and procurement teams at Fortune 500 and other influential companies. Build strong commercial relationships and generate demand for high-integrity jurisdictional REDD+ credits
  • Manage the full sales cycle – from pipeline development to deal closure for LEAF and other Emergent offerings, driving revenue and climate impact targets
  • Lead the development and implementation of Emergent’s comprehensive sales strategy that aligns with Emergent’s goals and market positioning
  • Play a visible role in expanding Emergent’s presence amongst corporate buyers. This includes representing Emergent at key industry events and driving thought leadership through webinars and position papers
  • Manage a small team of sales professionals
  • Track market developments and buyer preferences, and tailor pitches to align with client priorities and Emergent's offerings
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., legal, communications, transactions) to deliver the firm to our clients
  • Support new clients in onboarding and contracting, and work closely with account managers through deal participation, communications, and credit retirement, with an emphasis on customer growth and satisfaction
  • Address client concerns with clarity, empathy, and a solutions-oriented mindset, emphasizing opportunities for alignment and impact

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in B2B sales, including 3-5 years focused on sustainability, carbon markets, or nature-based and decarbonization strategies
  • Well-established network among corporate climate action professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to close complex, high-value deals in compressed timelines
  • Strong knowledge of carbon markets and nature-based solutions. Familiarity with standards and policies in both voluntary market and compliance markets
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of building and executing growth strategies
  • Polished, organized, and confident communicator with the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible messages across audiences and formats. Excellent negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience managing a small team and working cross-functionally in fast-paced organizations
  • Willingness to travel within Europe and occasionally to North America and other regions
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, digital outreach tools, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus. Fluency in English required; additional languages (e.g., French, Spanish, Portuguese, German) are an asset
