Research Technician, Part-time in Umeå
Your work sits in the hot zone of our discovery engine. Every candidate our AI platform identifies ends up on a bench in Umeå before it goes anywhere else.
About Agteria
Agteria is an AI discovery company for non-human biology. We find novel molecules and mechanisms for agricultural and food-production problems, and license or co-develop them with partners. Our first product is a methane inhibitor for cattle, and we have a pipeline of compounds moving through discovery right now.
We run fast. Our AI platform proposes novel candidates in days; the wet lab in Umeå validates them. That tight loop between computation and bench is what lets a seven-person team discover and ship products at a pace most R&D organisations cannot match. We fail fast, learn quickly, and hire for work ethic, integrity, and intelligence above anything else. We are based in Stockholm with the in-vitro lab at SLU in Umeå, and we are backed by some of the best investors in deep tech and sustainability.
The Role
We are looking for a part-time Research Technician (30–50%) to join our in-vitro lab team at SLU in Umeå. You will be running our fermentation experiments, and supporting in planning, study design, and analysis.
Your work sits in the hot zone of our discovery engine. Every candidate our AI platform identifies ends up on a bench in Umeå before it goes anywhere else. Your measurements decide which compounds move forward and which we kill. Few jobs give you a loop that direct between experiment and company strategy.
Responsibilities
Run in-vitro fermentation assays independently and reliably.
Set up experiments, manage samples, and measure gas production.
Support experimental planning and data analysis, and contribute to study reports.
Collaborate closely with our science team to advance compounds through discovery.
Who you are
You are comfortable working independently, moving at a high pace, and picking up new techniques as the platform evolves. You are a careful, capable, and curious bench scientist who likes running experiments and wants the data to matter beyond the assay. Previous lab experience is required.
We're a small team building something that matters. That means we need someone who:
Thrives in ambiguity and moves quickly
Loves problem-solving, takes ownership, and follows things through
Enjoys fast-moving and evolving environments
Is deeply curious and enjoys testing, learning, and iterating
Is excited by an AI-driven R&D platform and wants to be close to where the data is generated
Wants to be part of building a company, not just filling a role
Cares about the mission – reducing the climate impact of agriculture
You likely have:
Prior lab experience within cell culture, bacterial culture, and/or protein purification
qPCR experience
Deep curiosity and willingness to learn new domains
Why join Agteria
This is a starting role with serious growth potential. The right person can transition into a full-time scientist role at Agteria, working directly with leadership and taking on broader discovery projects as the pipeline grows.
You would also be joining at a moment where every wet-lab result changes what we develop next. Agriculture has been waiting decades for this kind of platform, and we are the ones building it. Few labs this size get to sit this close to the action.
Location & start
Based in Umeå, Sweden.
Start: ASAP.
About Agteria Biotech
Agteria is a Stockholm-based biotech company on a mission to reduce 1% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. Using AI-powered discovery, we develop compounds that make agriculture sustainable—starting with methane reduction in cattle.
Founded in 2023, we've demonstrated strong efficacy across multiple in-vivo trials and attracted interest from leading beef, dairy, and feed companies. Backed by top investors in deep tech and sustainability.
