Overview of the role:

As a Manager, Business Intelligence (BI) at Upshop, you'll be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of BI strategies that drive business growth and operational efficiency. You will lead a team of analysts and BI developers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure the delivery of actionable data solutions through advanced analytics, reporting, and data visualization tools. You will also provide oversight and guidance with respect to both customer and internal stakeholder communication, developing stories to accompany data analysis and leading data-related discussions.

This is a hybrid position based in one of our Centers of Excellence (Austin, TX; Tampa, FL; or Mississauga, ONT, Canada) and will report to our Director, Business Intelligence. Expect up to 10 days of travel per year.

Responsibilities:

  • BI Strategy & Implementation: Develop and lead the execution of the company’s BI strategy, aligning data initiatives with business goals and objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and guide a team of BI developers and BI analysts. Develop cross-functional relationships with Upshop’s internal teams, educating these teams and guiding the use of data enterprise-wide. Lead customer-facing discussions as the data expert.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting: Oversee the design and development of BI solutions including dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using BI tools such as Domo and Power BI. Support continuous development of Upshop’s internal executive dashboards. Support documentation and training related to all BI content.
  • Data Management: Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure proper data warehousing, ETL processes, and data governance practices. Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security across all BI platforms.
  • Customer Engagement: Work cross-functionally with Customer Success, Implementation, and Support teams, leading data-related discussions and constructing stories supported by data. Occasional travel to customer on-site meetings; not more than 10 total travel days per year.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with senior management and key stakeholders to identify business needs and translate them into actionable data solutions. Present insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Performance Measurement: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track business performance, operational efficiency, and financial health. Ensure that BI solutions provide timely, accurate, and relevant information.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve BI processes, from data collection and analysis to reporting. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in BI, data visualization, and analytics.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage BI projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business needs. Collaborate with product managers and IT teams using Agile methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field (Master's degree a plus).
    • 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, data analytics, or data science roles, with at least 2 years of management or leadership experience.
    • Proven experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Domo, or Looker.
    • Experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and data architecture.

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in BI platforms and data visualization tools.
    • Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Azure experience preferred
    • Advanced SQL skills for querying and managing complex datasets.
    • Knowledge of machine learning and predictive analytics is a plus.
    • Knowledge of Maui and/or C# a plus

  • Leadership and Project Management:
    • Proven experience in managing and mentoring a BI or analytics team.
    • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with stakeholders across business functions.
    • Strong project management skills, including experience with Agile methodologies.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
    • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into actionable data insights.
    • Ability to solve complex business problems using data and analytical thinking.

  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively.
    • Experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Domo experience is a huge plus
  • Experience in grocery or retail industries
  • Demand forecasting using ML or related models
