Who we are - Our Mission

terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage.
The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match.
By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms.

What we are hiring for - Your Role

As our Grid Strategy & Access Lead, you are the central owner of terralayr’s grid connectivity and the bridge between power system physics and commercial execution. Your mission is to secure and optimize grid access across the entire project lifecycle - from identifying strategic "white spots" to successful conversion. By leveraging advanced grid modeling and load flow analysis, you won't just navigate grid constraints; you will challenge them, leading data-driven negotiations with DSOs/TSOs to ensure our BESS assets are deployed exactly where the energy transition needs them most.

What you will work on - Your Responsibilities

  • Grid Modeling & Insights: Perform sophisticated load flow analyses and simulate grid conditions at specific connection points. You will use DSO data (current load, expansion plans, demand scenarios) to create the technical "source of truth" for our site selection.
  • Technical Integration: Lead the technical grid connection process for utility-scale BESS, overseeing the integration into medium and high-voltage (MV/HV) networks and substations.
  • Grid Access Strategy: Proactively scout the "funnel" for new connection opportunities and manage the conversion of existing leads into secured capacity through structured follow-ups and tactical negotiations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Be the point of contact for DSOs/TSOs. You will lead data-driven discussions - including Firm Capacity Agreements (FCA) - using your quantitative models to drive outcomes.
  • Regulatory Navigation: Master grid connection requirements and TSO/DSO processes to bypass bottlenecks practical constraints and accelerate project timelines.
  • Commercial Synergy: Translate technical grid constraints into revenue impacts, supporting our commercial teams with insights on ancillary services and prequalification requirements.
  • Ownership: Move beyond the spreadsheet to ensure your analyses result in concrete hardware in the ground, collaborating closely with our Development, Delivery, and Commercial teams.

What we are looking for - Your Qualifications

  • Experience: 5-10 years of professional experience within a utility, TSO/DSO, or a leading renewable energy developer, with a proven track record in BESS or large-scale grid integration is highly prioritized.
  • Education: An engineering degree (Electrical/Power Systems), or a related field. While you are a technical expert, your approach is applied and project-driven rather than purely theoretical.
  • Tooling & Tech: Proficiency in grid simulation software and a deep understanding of the German regulatory framework.
  • Strategic Mindset: You don't just identify problems; you solve them. You have a "bias toward execution" and the ability to turn complex technical data into a winning negotiation argument.
  • Communication: Fluent in the technical language of grid operators and the commercial language of investors. Professional proficiency in German is essential for leading DSO/TSO negotiations.

Why you should be excited about this opportunity

  • Our purpose: Join us in building up an asset fleet that has the potential to make a positive impact on society and our planet by addressing the massive deficit in global energy storage.
  • Focus on innovation: Building our asset fleet following our technology agnostic approach means you will have the opportunity to work with the highest industry standard equipment.
  • Impact: Your contribution will not only have a positive impact on society; by joining our small and nimble team, your work will make a difference from day one.
  • Personal development: You will benefit from a learning & development budget of 1,000 EUR per calendar year that you can use for your individual professional development.
