(Senior) Quantitative Modeler - BESS (m/f/d)

Terralayr

Terralayr

Berlin, Germany · Remote
Posted on Feb 19, 2026
Who we are - Our Mission
terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage.
The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match.
By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms.
What we are hiring for - Your Role
As a (Senior) Quantitative Modeler (m/f/d), you will bring hands-on quantitative rigor to our modeling stack and become a key technical partner across different teams. You will develop, maintain, and extend our forecasting and backtesting models for defining the value of flexibility, integrating real market data and evolving regulatory constraints.
What you will work on - Your Responsibilities
  • Maintain and continuously improve in-house backtesting and forecasting models for BESS revenues
    • Expand models to accommodate new markets, products, and regulatory changes (e.g., 15-min switch of DA markets, grid tariffs)
    • Ensure strong consistency between historical backtesting results and forward-looking projections
  • Implement and refine technical and regulatory constraints in the models, including but not limited to Flexible Connection Agreements (FCA) and operational limitations
  • Review and critically challenge external long-term revenue forecasts
    • Deep-dive into methodologies, assumptions, and sensitivities
    • Translate external forecasts into impacts on project-specific revenues
  • Ensure model robustness, transparency, and reproducibility
    • Clear documentation of assumptions and methodologies
    • Version control, testing, and audit-ready analytical workflows
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with commercial, finance, asset, engineering, and product teams to ensure models reflect operational reality and support real investment decisions. You will leverage and extend existing quantitative models to support internal valuation and strategy, as well as performance assessment and commercial decision-making for third-party (3P) asset customers.
What we are looking for - Your Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in energy markets, with strong exposure to Battery Energy Storage (BESS) revenue modeling
  • Deep familiarity with BESS revenue streams, relevant regulatory frameworks, and market design — ideally with a focus on the German market
  • Proven hands-on experience in quantitative modeling, particularly optimization and forecasting
  • Strong Python skills and experience building robust, reproducible analytical workflows
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership in identifying and addressing potential risks
Why you should be excited about this opportunity
  • Work for a company with a clear mission: A world powered by 100% renewable energy
  • Have impact from day 1: Your contribution will not only have a positive impact on society; by joining our small and nimble team, your work will make a difference from day one.
  • Become a Shareholder: In addition to your competitive base salary your compensation includes an ESOP component that lets you participate in the development of our growing company.
