Senior Electrical Engineer (Mission-Critical - Data Center)
Location & work modality: Georgia, USA (hybrid)
Start: ASAP
Type of Contract: Full Time / Permanent
Travel Requirements: First ~6 months are expected to be mixed remote plus travel, after which the majority will be onsite.
About Submer
Submer designs and delivers end-to-end AI datacenter infrastructure built around industry-leading liquid cooling.
We help organizations scale AI beyond the limits of traditional datacenters by enabling higher density, greater efficiency and lower environmental impact – accelerating time-to-AI from first deployment to full production.
What impact you will have
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of electrical systems for high-density data centers, including both conventional and direct liquid cooling (DLC) facilities. This role is focused on ensuring safe, resilient, and scalable electrical infrastructure; from utility interface down to rack-level distribution, supporting mission-critical environments and next-generation compute platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with hands-on project experience and thrives in multidisciplinary teams delivering complex data center projects.
This role offers you a great opportunity to:
Lead a landmark AI data center project: Phase 1 of a 100 MW “AI factory” in Georgia, fast-track, hyperscale, high-density - not a traditional colocation or enterprise facility.
Work at the forefront of AI infrastructure: Gain unique, marketable experience designing state-of-the-art power, cooling, and compute systems.
Fast-paced, high-impact environment: Contribute to a project that pushes the boundaries of scale, density, and next-generation data center design.
What you’ll do
Electrical System Design & Engineering
• Develop end-to-end electrical designs for data centers (MV, LV, UPS, generators, busbars, PDUs, rack-level distribution).
• Produce detailed schematics, one-line diagrams, layout drawings, and technical specifications.
• Integrate electrical design with mechanical and IT systems, with a special focus on DLC requirements and interfaces.
• Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with project requirements, client standards, and industry best practices.
Power Distribution & Analysis
• Perform load flow, short-circuit, selectivity, and reliability studies using industry-standard tools.
• Specify and validate switchgear, transformers, busbar systems, protective devices, and cabling for high-current distribution.
• Evaluate redundancy schemes (N, N+1, 2N) and contribute to Tier certification requirements.
Commissioning & Delivery
• Support procurement, vendor evaluation, and technical submittal reviews.
• Oversee factory acceptance tests (FATs), site acceptance tests (SATs), commissioning, and handover activities.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.
Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure all designs comply with NEC/IEC codes, local regulations, and global data center standards.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, test protocols, and O&M manuals.
• Contribute to risk assessments, method statements, and safety compliance plans.
Collaboration & Expertise
• Work closely with clients, architects, mechanical engineers, and IT specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
• Provide subject matter expertise on DLC-specific electrical design challenges (higher rack densities, liquid-to-liquid interfaces, safety protocols).
What you’ll need
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
• Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in mission-critical electrical design with a strong exposure to (at least 6 years) in large‑scale, high‑density, fast‑track data center project delivery.
• AI infrastructure experience is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution from MV/LV down to rack-level (busbars, PDUs, server power delivery).
• Experience with direct liquid cooling (DLC) environments and high-density compute facilities.
• Strong understanding of Tier certification requirements, electrical codes (NEC, IEC), and international standards.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, client-facing environments with tight delivery timelines.
