About Submer
Submer designs and delivers end-to-end AI datacenter infrastructure built around industry-leading liquid cooling.
We help organizations scale AI beyond the limits of traditional datacenters by enabling higher density, greater efficiency and lower environmental impact – accelerating time-to-AI from first deployment to full production.
What impact you will have
The Product Line Owner is the end-to-end business leader for a product line of high-density cooling racks for AI and high-density compute. Acting as a “mini-GM,” the PLO owns market insight, product strategy, roadmap, and financial performance (P&L) from concept to end-of-life. The role combines deep technical understanding of liquid cooling and high-density AI infrastructure with strong business, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills, ensuring the product line delivers sustainable revenue, margin, and customer value in a global, multicultural environment.
What you’ll do
1. Market and Customer Insight
Build a deep understanding of the global market for advanced cooling AI infrastructure (hyperscalers, colos, micro-DCs, OEMs, integrators, telcos, enterprises).
Conduct regular interviews with strategic customers, partners, and channels to understand AI density roadmaps, cooling strategies, constraints, and buying criteria.
Analyse competitors (tanks, racks, CDUs, integrated micro-DCs) and adjacent technologies, identifying differentiation and white spaces for the product line.
2. Product Strategy, Roadmap, and Portfolio Management
Define and maintain the product line vision and multi-year roadmap for high-density racks, and associated options (CDUs, manifolds, power integration, enclosures, services).
Decide on new products, variants, and cost-down initiatives, balancing performance, density, cost, sustainability, and time-to-market.
Align the product line roadmap with company strategy, sales priorities, strategic partnerships and industrial capabilities, in close collaboration with CPO and Engineering.
3. Business Case and P&L Ownership
Own the P&L of the product line: build and update business cases, set volume and margin ambitions, and track performance versus plan.
Define pricing structures (per rack, options, services) and discount frameworks with Finance and Sales, ensuring margin discipline in a high-CAPEX B2B context.
Monitor revenue, gross margin, mix, and pipeline; propose and drive corrective actions (portfolio, pricing, cost, go-to-market) when targets are at risk.
4. Cross-Functional Leadership and Execution
Lead cross-functional product line forums, bringing together Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Sustainability, Compliance/Certification, Maintenance, and Support.
Negotiate priorities and trade-offs (features, cost, lead time, density targets) with these teams, ensuring clarity of requirements and realistic commitments.
Act as the single accountable owner for key product decisions and as the main escalation point for issues impacting the product line.
5. Product Definition and Lifecycle Management
Translate market and customer insights into clear product requirements: thermal and power envelopes (e.g. 300–1000+ kW/rack), AI server types and form factor, fluid types, materials, serviceability, safety, certification, and integration constraints.
Own the full lifecycle: introduction, growth, maturity, and end-of-life, including SKU/option strategy, complexity control, and migration paths to new generations.
Ensure product documentation (spec sheets, integration guides, TCO/value tools) accurately reflects capabilities and constraints.
6. Sales and Go-to-Market Support
Support Sales and Technical Sales Specialists on deals: positioning vs competition, solution configuration, trade-off discussions (density vs redundancy, CAPEX vs OPEX, cooling architecture choices).
Contribute to launches, major bids, and strategic partnerships by preparing product value propositions, reference architectures, and customer-facing presentations.
Train and enable channel partners and key accounts on the product line, with Product Marketing.
7. Governance and Reporting
Report product line performance and major risks/opportunities to the CPO and leadership team.
Prepare and defend investment proposals (new SKUs, industrialisation, cost-down, tooling, NPI) in portfolio/governance forums.
Ensure decisions are data-driven and aligned with the company’s scaling priorities.
Advanced Liquid Cooling and AI Power Density Specific Competencies
-
Solid understanding of liquid cooling technologies for IT:
Cold‑plate design basics (materials, internal channels, pressure drop, fouling, manufacturability).
Manifold and hose systems, quick‑couplings, leak prevention, and serviceability concepts.
CDUs, secondary loops, and their impact on rack design and facility infrastructure.
Comparative view of different cooling technologies in terms of PUE, rack density, reliability, and TCO for AI workloads.
-
Ability to reason about very high energy density racks (hundreds of kW to ~1 MW per rack):
Electrical design implications (high-current busways, redundancy, safety).
Mechanical/thermal design impacts (flow rates, ΔT, pump and CDU sizing, dry coolers/chillers, water temperatures, heat reuse).
High-performance networks (Infiniband, UltraEthernet) design, installation, commissioning.
Operational aspects (commissioning, service, fluid handling, monitoring, safety procedures).
Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines: ASHRAE liquid-cooling recommendations, OCP/OCP-Ready DLC specs, pressure‑equipment and safety norms and vendor reference architectures for GPU clusters and AI superpods.
Ability to use thermal and TCO models (often built with Engineering/Finance) to quantify trade-offs between different cooling architectures and deployment patterns for high-density AI customers.
Credibility and comfort engaging with datacentre operators, facility engineers, and AI infrastructure architects as the high-density rack product line’s expert voice on cooling density and end-to-end datacenter integration.
What you’ll need
5+ years in product management or product line management of complex, technical hardware or infrastructure solutions; 10+ years total experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of: DLC datacentre equipment, high-density racks, HPC/AI infrastructure, power and cooling systems, or similar.
Clear track record of responsibility for product financials (revenue, margin, pricing) and successful product launches in a scaling company.
Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Strategic Partnerships, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Support in a hardware/industrial environment.
Master’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
Additional business or management qualification (e.g. MBA or equivalent) is a plus.
