⚡About rebase.energy

At rebase.energy, we’re on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to a clean, affordable and reliable energy system. This is a big deal, since energy is responsible for almost three-quarters of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. We do this by empowering utilities, renewable power producers and energy traders with forecasts to balance supply and demand more effectively in an increasingly volatile power grid. In the Rebase Platform, data from weather, energy and markets is integrated from various sources and channelled through machine learning models to provide operational forecasts to our users. Our data APIs have more than 500 TB of data under management and processing +300 GB of data daily.

If you’re excited about working with real-time datasets, operating a robust platform for users and want to have a tangible impact on the energy transition, read on.

💭 Your Mindset

  • You thrive in a fast-moving, collaborative, sometimes uncertain environment and are motivated to keep learning new things.
  • You have a can-do mentality and contribute with positive energy to the team.
  • You are pragmatic and care about the user impact of your code in the real world (not just about the code itself).
  • You have a general passion for working with data and like to try out new practices and tools that can improve your work.
  • You are excited to join a company that is building a product with the potential to make a lasting, positive impact on our planet.

🫡 Your Responsibilities

As a Data and Platform Engineer at Rebase, you’ll be at the heart of our platform team. We are right now looking to take the next step in improving our tech stack, which means there will be plenty of opportunities to have a significant impact on architectural decisions.

For this role, we will prioritise candidates who can grow into the position over the longer term, rather than focusing solely on seniority or skills. Your responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to data architecture evaluations and decisions to evolve our tech stack to meet customer needs.
  • Design and build data integration pipelines that process and deliver weather, market, and energy data in real-time and batch.
  • Design and build APIs and SDKs that simplify users’ interactions with our data e.g. by enabling data scientists to iterate on ML model training and backtesting workflows quickly.
  • Create documentation for features and APIs to ensure we are living up to our customer promise of being an API-first company.
  • Ensure data quality and reliability through monitoring, validation, testing, and robust engineering practices.
  • Energy demand and supply both depend heavily on weather, so prepare yourself to learn lots about meteorology!
  • Continuously improve the quality, scalability and maintainability of the codebase
  • Be part of the core data and platform team that ensures quick and systematic resolution of data and platform problems to minimise downtime.

This role is a mix of engineering and operations — perfect for someone who enjoys building systems as much as making sure they have a real impact in production.

✅ Your Qualifications

We’re looking for a team player who is purpose-driven, detail-oriented, and excited about solving real-world problems with data. You might be a great fit if you:

  • Are fluent in Python and comfortable with SQL and cloud environments like Azure, AWS or GCP.
  • Are familiar with API frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • We’re a small team, so it’s important that you can take ownership of your own work. We will, of course, be there to support you!
  • Knowledge of energy, power market and weather data. Or willingness to learn, you understand that it’s important to understand the data that you work with.
  • Able to leverage AI tools to maximize team productivity.

Some additional nice-to-haves (we’re sure that quick learners can pick this up on the job):

  • Experience working with time-series data modelling and large-scale data management.
  • Experience working with weather forecasts (NWP models), including tools like Xarray and file formats such as GRIB, NetCDF and zarr.
  • Experience working with distributed computing and containerization frameworks such as Kubernetes, Docker and Dask.
  • Experience working with modern orchestrators such as Prefect, Flyte or Dagster.
  • Experience delivering production-grade data products in a fast-moving and business-critical setting.
  • Experience with CI/CD, data models and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).

🌍 Why Join Rebase?

  • A unique chance to fight climate change with your engineering skills.
  • Work with a small, ambitious, and collaborative team where your impact is immediate.
  • You have a great opportunity to improve your core tech skills together with other motivated individuals.
  • Work with a modern tech stack (Python, Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud) and have a large possibility to influence tech stack decisions.
  • You have a large amount of autonomy in your work. We trust that everyone is putting in their best work.
  • Competitive compensation with salary and stock option programs.
  • 6 weeks of paid vacation.
  • Every team member at Rebase gets 2 hours a week for physical exercise. We believe that it’s when you are healthy that you will do your best work.
  • Growth opportunities by defining your own role as you and the company grow.

At Rebase, we believe diversity drives innovation. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences.
