The Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) is an independent academic institution established in 1984. RWI has since 1990 carried out a wide range of research, academic education, and institutional capacity development programmes internationally in the human rights field. RWI ‘s mission is to contribute to a wider understanding of, and respect for, human rights and international humanitarian law. (see further http://rwi.lu.se/).
RWI has worked in Africa since the early 1990s through regional, sub-regional and bilateral cooperation programmes. With a focus on Access to Justice, RWI has strengthen the capacity of national human rights institutions and justice sector institutions and cooperated with correctional services in Kenya and East Africa.

About the position
The role of the Programme Officer is to ensure that human rights programmes are planned, implemented and followed up to achieve the expected results. Specifically, the Programme Officer will develop and deliver criminal justice training and courses and monitor and report on results.
The position is based at the RWI Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya and will report to the Regional Director – Africa. The position is full-time, with expected start date 1 October 2024, subject to funding. An existing right to work in Kenya is required. The offered contract will be under Kenyan labour law and based on RWI terms and conditions for national staff.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of a planned criminal justice project in Kenya as well as contribute to criminal justice components of other projects in the region.
You will develop and facilitate in person and online training courses as well as coordinate MEAL tasks for the criminal justice project. The work also involves supporting project planning and implementation and partner engagement and capacity development.
You will work in close collaboration with the Access to Justice experts and other RWI staff at the Regional Africa Office and liaise closely with relevant partners and stakeholders.

Your profile
You have solid knowledge and experience with project management from human rights or access to justice work.
You have knowledge and experience with access to justice work in Kenya or similar context.
You have experience developing human rights and justice training and learning courses. It is an added value if you have experience developing online courses.
You have excellent analytical skills and ability to find practical solutions.
You are able to work both independently and in teams, and to foster constructive internal as well as external relationships.
Your English language writing and speaking skills are excellent.
