Founded in early 2019 in the Netherlands, Quadriz is today the largest carbon offset project developer in Paraguay, with local offices in Asunción and Alto Paraguay. Quadriz develops and manages nature-based solutions (NBS) through high-impact verified carbon offsetting projects. Quadriz is dedicated to conserving a maximum of the native forest lands of the Gran Chaco, South America’s second largest forest area. The Chaco forest area has one of the richest biodiversity concentrations on the planet, but sadly also ranks as one of the world’s absolute deforestation hotspots due to the region’s increasing cattle ranching industry. In October 2020, Quadriz announced the commencement of its first REDD+ project named “Corazón Verde del Chaco,” due to its location in the “green heart” of the Paraguayan Chaco. This high-impact project initially conserves 32,000 hectares (79,000 acres) of critical Chaco forest and is designed, registered, and verified under two leading carbon standards known as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCBS) with gold distinction for exceptional biodiversity benefits. The project preserves endangered species and a wide range of ecosystem services, provides an economic alternative to local communities, and mitigates the release of an estimated 5.6 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the first 10 years of the project. Through the sale and delivery of verified carbon units (VCUs), Quadriz provides access for corporates to offset their unavoidable carbon emissions in a safe and viable manner, whilst taking immediate action to stop the ongoing large-scale deforestation of one of the world's largest forest carbon sinks as well as most threatened forest areas, the Gran Chaco in Paraguay. Quadriz generates a quadruple impact through carbon sequestration and the conservation of native primary forests, biodiversity, and local communities.
