Freshman Advocate

Position Summary:
This Freshman Advocate will provide support to the freshman students through helping students navigate adjustments to college life by connecting them with resources, following up with referrals, developing initiatives and programming to encourage academic, social, and spiritual growth. This Freshman Advocate will be present on campus, and act as a connecting resource for students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide early intervention, mentorship, and ongoing support for first-year students experiencing academic, social, personal, or mental health challenges.
  • Monitor student progress and engagement to identify barriers, connect students with appropriate campus resources, and support retention efforts.
  • Build meaningful relationships that encourage student success, leadership development, belonging, and personal growth.
  • Lead and coordinate the Earn Your Wings and Take Flight programs.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen the first-year student experience and promote student engagement.
  • Support university events and maintain an active campus presence, including chapel participation and select evening activities.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to enhance student success and create a supportive campus environment.
  • Coach and encourage students in their academic, personal, and spiritual growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing leadership to college or high school students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Warm and engaging verbal communication skills in both individual and group settings.
  • Effective written communication skills across various topics and audiences.
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment for all students.
  • Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with technology, including PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite, AI platforms, and social media.
  • Passion for OC’s mission of educating, mentoring, and inspiring students to fulfill their God-given potential.
  • Active member of a local church.
