Student Financial Counselor

Position Summary: The Returning Student Financial Counselor plays a meaningful role in helping students successfully navigate and manage their financial aid as they continue their educational journey at OC. This position serves as a trusted resource for returning students, offering guidance on the FAFSA process, financial aid awards, compliance requirements, and overall financial literacy. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, approachable, and committed to working for the good of the student while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
Responsibilities:
  • Package financial aid awards for returning students in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Counsel students and families on financial aid options, including grants, scholarships, loans, work-study, and payment plans.
  • Assist students and parents with completing the FAFSA and submitting required documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Respond to student and parent inquiries with professionalism, clarity, and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Explain financial aid awards and scholarship policies, including scholarship stacking guidelines, in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Monitor account balances and collect student accounts receivable.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed student records in Colleague.
  • Stay current on financial aid regulations and best practices through ongoing training.
  • Support the Student Financial Services team by assisting students during high-volume periods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and approachable way.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Dedicated to supporting students in a way that reflects OC’s Kingdom Culture—marked by humility, kindness, respect, joy, and trust.
  • Active member of a local church and aligned with OC’s Christian mission
  • Experience in financial aid or customer-facing roles preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: This position is an hourly role. Oklahoma Christian University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance premium support, employer-paid long-term disability (after 1 yr employment) and life insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan with up to a 6% employer matching contribution.
