Build the intelligence layer for the ocean economy

Offshore infrastructure is becoming critical to the global economy, from subsea power and data cables to offshore wind. Yet much of the physical risk beneath the ocean remains difficult to quantify, forcing insurers and infrastructure owners to rely on fragmented data, expensive site studies and proxy models.

ORI is building DEPTH™, an ocean risk intelligence engine that combines ocean science, engineering and probabilistic risk modelling to make these risks measurable. The scientific framework is already being validated with two industry leaders. We are now looking for the person who can turn it into a scalable technology platform and potentially become our CTO and co-founder.

The opportunity

This is a zero-to-one technical leadership role, not a conventional CTO position. We're looking for someone who wants to build the company with us. You will shape the architecture, technology strategy and product roadmap from the ground up, working directly with Cecilia, Founder & CEO, and João, Head of Science. You will own the evolution of DEPTH across its environmental, engineering and risk-modelling layers, build the technology foundation, and eventually build the team around it.

You won't be inheriting a large engineering organisation or maintaining an existing product. You'll have the opportunity to define what the technology and ultimately the company becomes.

A genuine path to co-founder

We want to build the founding relationship deliberately. The starting point is a paid engagement that allows both sides to synchronise on technical vision, ways of working and values before making a long-term commitment. The intended path is: Technical advisor → full-time CTO & co-founder

As we establish the next milestones such as funding, MVP and commercial validation, the role evolves into meaningful equity, decision-making authority and ownership of the technology function.

What we're looking for

• Technical builder. You've successfully built and shipped complex deep-tech, data, AI/ML or software products in a startup or similarly entrepreneurial environment. Experience in ocean risk or insurance is not required. We value the ability to tackle technically complex problems and learn a new domain.

• Platform thinker. You understand data architecture, APIs and scalable platforms, ideally with geospatial or scientific data.

• Deep-tech startup track record. You have experience taking a product from early concept through technical validation and towards a scalable product, navigating the constraints and trade-offs of an early-stage company. A track record of doing this successfully in another domain is a strong plus.

• Comfort with ambiguity. You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, changing direction as evidence emerges, and creating structure where none exists.

• Curious. You enjoy working across disciplines and are excited by problems where software meets physical systems. Oceanography or catastrophe modelling experience is a plus, not a prerequisite.

• Founder mindset. You want ownership, autonomy and responsibility not simply a senior technology title.

• Mission aligned. You believe resilient infrastructure and a healthy ocean are connected and want your technology work to contribute to both.

• Stockholm-based or able to work hybrid from Stockholm.
