Job Description

Are you a Senior or Lead chemical engineer looking for new opportunities within the sustainable sector? Do you want to contribute to the development, industrialization and production of new, greener and better performing batteries? Are you a process engineering manager looking for more technical lead opportunities? Then this position might be very well suited for you!

To ensure sustainable battery production and use, there is an undeniable need for battery recycling No battery will have low carbon footprint unless raw materials are recovered from recycled products from the market. At Northvolt, we are proud to say that we integrate battery recycling as a critical building pillar in our battery production. Recycling batteries is however not a simple process. It is a highly complex combination of automated mechanical deconstruction steps, followed by a series of intricate hydrometallurgical processing steps producing high value products used both in battery production and other industries. Hand in hand with electrification, the battery recycling sector is increasing at record speed with new technology and processes being developed around the clock. Within the hydrometallurgical part of the process, standard principles of hydrometallurgy are being re-shaped into new exciting separation concepts.

As such, working with the hydrometallurgical part of battery recycling process is the ultimate challenge for chemical engineers searching to push their abilities and expertise to the next level. Working with cathode at Northvolt will provide you the possibility to be at the forefront of new battery recycling technology and processes within Europe, excel at engineering in new multi million dollar investments and get hands dirty in the real recycling processes. We are therefore looking for world class Lead chemical engineers to join our team and journey.

We are looking for individuals with significant amount of industrial experience within hydrometallurgy, precursor and/or cathode manufacturing, calcination & sintering, solids coating or powder handling. Equally, we are looking for someone that is ready to take the challenge to take on a lot of responsibility and ownership, leading and guiding the group technically through all phases of engineering and execution. The lead role in our Engineering & Industrialisation department would be within one of our area teams:

  • Recycling Team : focus on hydrometallurgical route of battery recycling, including leaching, precipitation, crystallization and solid-liquid separation.
