Northvolt has an exciting opportunity for an Electrode Process Engineer to join our bold project team at Northvolt's innovation centre in Västerås, Sweden.

If you join us, you will play an important role from the very beginning in building the next state-of-the-art battery factories for Northvolt, as part of our inspiring mission to revolutionize energy storage manufacturing for a greener future.

The Process Engineer will be an expert in process development and concept design of electrode processes which includes in-depth knowledge of battery technology, electrode manufacturing processes, electrode quality assurance, equipment handling, control design, etc. You will play an important role in liaising with equipment suppliers and working with Northvolt’s industrialization and factory design teams to develop and efficiently integrate new equipment into the process.

In general, you will have long experience in the field and have driven large, innovative, and challenging development and improvement projects in electrode development and production.

The Process Engineer role requires the ability to work with diverse teams and personalities, time management skills, organizational skills, problem solving skills, testing and validation experience, and commissioning experience to improve existing processes in terms of yield, cost, quality, or efficiency.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage process development projects, set process metrics and goals
  • Research materials, processes, technologies, and issue new process designs
  • Plan and execute DOEs, conduct simulations, visualize and analyse data
  • Support troubleshooting issues and identifying root causes and implement solutions to improve process reliability and quality
  • Train process engineers
  • Define process windows and lead pre-FMEAs with Materials and QA team
  • Qualify alternative raw materials with Materials team and Supply Chain
  • Provide feedback and guidance to suppliers to ensure equipment quality, technical specifications and CE standards are met
  • Support industrialization teams in detailed engineering design from concept to site acceptance testing for material handling and coating
