Job Description

With Germany being the core of European automotive manufacturing, its only natural it should also be a pioneer in scaling up battery cell manufacturing. At Northvolt we are excited to make this happen, and we have recently announced that Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, will be the location of our German Battery Gigafactory. The factory will be built in multiple phases over 5+ years and the factory represent a multi-billion Euro investment project. To enable this project we are now looking for a dedicated and driven Senior Cost Manager to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future.

The role is a part of our passionate Program team based in Hamburg/Heide in Northern Germany. By joining us, you will be a key player in Managing Cost of the first large scale European battery factories.

About the job

Your are responsible for cost management across the Factory Program portfolio throughout all project phases. This includes elaborating cost estimates, setting cost targets and enabling the organization to track actual vs. forecasted cost. In this context you will have to manage Northvolt internal cost as well as to oversee cost managed by the various contractors working on the projects.

About the team

You will be part of the growing Factory Program team that will drive the planning, engineering, purchasing, construction, and commissioning of our new battery factory in Heide, Germany. Built in multiple phases over 5+ years the factory represents a multi-billion Euro investment project. Together with your colleagues from the Program team you will work with internal and external teams cross-functionally to deliver on company targets and in line with customer expectations.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Estimating: Performing cost analysis, estimates and budgets following the Northvolt Cost Breakdown Structure for Factory Programs, together with contractors and stakeholders to ensure estimates are accurate and to support decision making. Developing and utilizing best in class tools and methods.

Cost Controlling : Responsible to monitor projected cost relative to actual costs with interface to finance. Reporting status on a monthly basis to ensure costs are in line with forecasts/business case.

Collaboration: Assuring coordination and interaction to maximize collaboration between Program and Project managers, PMO, construction cost engineers, procurement and supply chain teams.

Leadership: Leading a team of cost controllers on Northvolt side as well as the cost controllers on contractor’s side. We expect to work with multiple contractors whose estimates and cost reports need to be managed in a consistent and effective manner, with effective and efficient workflows established between the parties.

In addition to these requirements, as a Senior Cost Manager in the Construction Industry you must have strong attention to detail, be able to work under pressure, and have a strong commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. You should possess excellent leadership, organizational and time-management skills and be able to lead and work effectively and efficiently in a team environment. Also, you should be able to work collaboratively with the construction team to ensure project success.
