Note, this is an application to join our team in Germany.

This year's program will focus on bringing fresh talent to Northvolt's next Gigafactory in Germany and to our first Gigafactory in Northern Sweden. By joining us, you will be at the forefront of building up a large scale green energy cluster from scratch, placing Northvolt's next Gigafactory in the heart of the German energy transition and contribute to building one of the largest and most sustainable European battery factories.

About the 6 month Graduate Program:

The program will consist of joining the team of your choice as a graduate engineer and is designed to provide a supportive platform for ambitious young professionals to sky rocket their career. After the 6 months has passed, you will then continue into full time employment, should the role be a mutual fit.

This program is designed to give you a smooth entrance into working at Northvolt whilst also giving you the opportunity to be taught by some of the pioneers in the battery industry. Your learning will also be enhanced by weekly modules on our LinkedIn Learning platform. The modules will primarily focus on success at work and building resilience and funnel into specific lectures as the program runs by.

As a Graduate, you will be part of our project team based in Heide with the possibility to make use of the Hamburg office as well.

Strategy Team:

The team drives the development and deployment of Northvolt’s gigafactory strategy in Germany being closely aligned with our group strategy on building up gigafactories. The team works closely with the operational and functional teams (both technical and business related) within Northvolt to drive strategic initiatives and establish needed partnerships. This means working in a highly cross-functional environment and acting as an intrapreneur in a fast-paced environment. An outstanding impact and learning curve in this position is guaranteed.

As a Graduate, you will manage strategic initiatives in a cross-functional setup together with other Northvolt teams, external stakeholders and our management in Germany. You have the ability to shape Northvolt's setup in Germany and grow a lighthouse project for Germany's energy and industrial transition from almost day one.

Tasks may include:

  • Contribute to Northvolt's Drei gigafactory strategy, manage strategic projects and support building up the project organisation & governance
  • Establish and coordinate partnerships around our gigafactory deployment and the ecosystem around the gigafactory
  • Hands-on project management to ensure partnerships & projects can be successfully deployed for the gigafactory
  • Manage company and project ramp up topics, setting up the right working culture
  • Work closely with the project managers in their respective areas, taking ownership where needed
  • Support delivery of project activities within the scope of budget quality and time

Engineering/design and Execution:

Within our Factory Programs team you will get the chance to be a part of designing and building NV3 (our new GigaFactory). We have opportunities in engineering/design and execution.

You will be part of the growing Factory Program team that will drive the planning, engineering, construction, and commissioning of our new battery factory in Heide, Germany. Built in multiple phases over 5+ years the factory represents a multi-billion Euro investment project. Together with your colleagues from the Program team you will work with internal and external teams cross-functionally to deliver on company targets and in line with customer expectations. An interest in design, construction or execution will help you flourish in these roles.

Tasks may include:

  • Collaborate with and support the process project design teams led by experienced engineers in executing the NV3 project.
  • Collaborate and support experienced engineers to review and drive designs completed by engineering contractors.
  • Actively participate in Northvolt-wide and project-specific lessons learned sessions, absorbing valuable knowledge from experienced engineers.
  • Collaborate with project engineers/project managers in executing the NV3 project.
  • Resolve technical roadblocks and actively engage in specific scopes of projects, offering valuable input to our engineering contractors.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry-specific procedures and standards, working alongside experienced engineers and consultants.

Project Controls:

The Project Controls Team (Construction) provides the monitoring and control practices necessary for construction management to make informed decisions with regard to execution of the physical works on site. Additionally, the Project Controls Team is a reporting function to the broader business; providing timely and reliable progress information and in doing so, helping to ensure our investments meet key performance criteria. A passion for numbers and cost management will help your thrive in this role.

Tasks may include:

  • Undertake productivity calculations necessary to forecast man-power efforts on site such as undertaking risk assessments and where necessary
  • Reviewing construction cost data to support both forecastings as well as future investment early estimates
  • Support senior management with cost-planning activities

Location: Heide

Contracts/ Purchasing :

Within our Factory Programs team, the Contract Team focuses on contract formation for our Heide Gigafactory. The team assist in negotiation during the procurement stage ensures contract execution as per best standards for both Consultants and Contractors. The team also works with post contract management, including claims, changes and extensions on time. The team continuously works on improving and implementing business recommendations and incorporating lessons learned from previous experiences from our site in Skelleftea. An interest in negotiation, contracts and cost management is key to be successful in this role.

Tasks may include:

  • Your main tasks and responsibilities in this team will be to support a team of Quantity Surveyors/ Contract Specialists. You will assist the procurement department in aligning and concluding the contract schedules
  • Assist in the update of Contract formation registers in line with master schedule requirements
  • Track claims and contract changes and back charge to Contractors and Consultants
  • Work closely with other teams and departments to ensure smooth communication and status transparency

Location: Heide

Process/ Production Engineering:

We are looking for passionate Process/ Production Engineers who will be at the frontline of designing and integrating process technology for our giga factory in Heide. You have the unique opportunity to focus on deploying the next generation of high-volume battery manufacturing equipment following its life cycle from design and development during and after purchase order through FAT at supplier site to installation and commissioning until start of production and beyond. An interest in equipment design, process development and commissioning will allow you to thrive in this position.

In short, the process and production teams are responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes and continuous improvement to support manufacturing with reaching target production numbers and KPIs.

Tasks may include:

  • You will work closely with our supplier's and process engineering team, this role will give you a glimpse into what it takes to build a Gigafactory
  • Manage detailed design and process engineering from PO to FAT and SAT for manufacturing equipment
  • Plan and execute hands-on technical work using statistical techniques (DoE, SPC) at supplier and NV sites to continuously improve our manufacturing equipment
  • You will be responsible to define, launch and continuously improve highly specialised battery manufacturing equipment
