About LM International

In Ukraine, LM International works with local partners to strengthen resilience and protection for children and families affected by war, with a focus on health, education, and child protection.

Project Background

The project Pathways to Resilience for Children in a Humanitarian Crisis (May 2025 – April 2027), funded by Radiohjälpen, aims to strengthen the resilience of children affected by war in Lviv. The project promotes children’s rights to health, education, and safety in partnership with the Lviv Children Care Centre (CCC).

As part of this initiative, LM International is seeking a qualified consultant or organisation to design and deliver a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) awareness and capacity-building programme for children, caregivers, and frontline staff working with children.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The consultant/team will design and deliver an MHPSS awareness and capacity-building training programme that supports children and families affected by conflict-related trauma.

The programme will focus on increasing awareness of mental health and wellbeing, strengthening protective practices at family and community level, and supporting frontline staff to recognise when referral to specialised services is required.

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

The consultant(s) will:

  • Design and deliver an MHPSS training programme tailored to three target groups.
  • Develop culturally appropriate training materials and methodologies.
  • Conduct training sessions and practical exercises.
  • Provide clear guidance on trauma-informed approaches when working with children.
  • Work closely with LM International and CCC to align training content with local needs and existing support systems.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen local MHPSS referral pathways.

Training Components

Level 1 – Children and Young People (6–17 years)

  • Deliver sessions that raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing.
  • Introduce practical tools and techniques that help children manage stress and emotional wellbeing.
  • Promote safe spaces and positive coping mechanisms.

Level 2 – Parents and Caregivers

  • Increase awareness of children's mental health and trauma responses.
  • Provide practical methods caregivers can use to support children's wellbeing.

Level 3 – Frontline Staff and Social Services

  • Strengthen staff capacity to recognise trauma and psychosocial distress.
  • Provide practical techniques to support children in community settings.
  • Clarify when referral to specialised mental health services is required.
  • Support LM International and partners to strengthen the local MHPSS referral pathway in Lviv.

Methodology

The consultant(s) will adapt training methodologies to ensure that language, messaging, and learning methods are appropriate for:

  • Children and young people
  • Parents and caregivers
  • Community centre staff and social service professionals

Training approaches should be participatory, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate.

Expected Deliverables

The consultant/team will deliver:

  • Training design and methodology plan
  • Training materials and facilitation guides
  • Delivery of training sessions for all three target groups
  • Training summary report including lessons learned and recommendations

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, mental health, social work, or a related MHPSS field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience designing and delivering MHPSS training programmes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trauma-informed approaches, particularly related to children and youth.
  • Experience adapting training materials for diverse audiences.
  • Experience working within MHPSS referral pathways and community support systems.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methods to assess the impact of MHPSS training.
  • Ability to deliver training in Lviv, Ukraine.

Desirable

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in conflict-affected or humanitarian contexts.
  • Previous experience delivering MHPSS training in Ukraine or Eastern Europe.

Workplace Type

On-site in Lviv, Ukraine, with coordination with LM International Country Office in Kyiv.

Timeline

The consultancy will consist of four training sessions delivered between May 2026 and February 2027. The first training is expected to take place in May 2026, with subsequent sessions scheduled in coordination with LM International and project partners throughout the implementation period.
