Overview
The Program Officer will provide technical and administrative support for the implementation of the RISE Botswana Project, ensuring that program activities are effectively planned, coordinated, monitored, and reported in line with United States Government, Department of State (DOS) and Jhpiego standards. Working in close collaboration with the Technical Director, technical teams and implementing partners, the Program Officer will ensures that project activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with DOS and Jhpiego requirements. The role supports partner coordination, performance monitoring, documentation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement to contribute to the achievement of project objectives and sustainable program outcomes.
Responsibilities
. Project Coordination and Implementation Support
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of RISE project activities in collaboration with the Technical Director and technical teams.
- Assist in the development, consolidation, and monitoring of work plans, activity schedules, and project deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives and donor requirements.
- Coordinate with technical, finance, operations, and MEL teams to facilitate timely and effective implementation of project activities.
- Support the organization and documentation of project meetings, workshops, trainings, and stakeholder engagements.
- Assist in tracking RISE project progress and following up on action items to ensure timely completion of activities.
- Partner Coordination and Support
- Support engagement with implementing partners and sub-awardees to facilitate effective project delivery and achievement of planned milestones.
- Assist partners in understanding RISE project requirements, reporting expectations, and compliance obligations.
- Monitor partner activity implementation and provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and emerging issues.
- Support the review of partner work plans, activity reports, and supporting documentation.
- Facilitate communication and information sharing among project partners to promote collaboration and learning.
- Monitoring, Reporting, and Adaptive Management
- Track project activities and progress against approved work plans and performance indicators.
- Collect, compile, and verify RISE project data and reports from partners and project teams.
- Support the preparation of periodic progress reports, presentations, success stories, and other project documentation.
- Identify implementation challenges and escalate issues to RISE project leadership for timely resolution.
- Contribute to documenting lessons learned, best practices, and innovations to support continuous improvement.
- Compliance, Quality Assurance, and Risk Management
- Support adherence to DOS and Jhpiego policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Assist in maintaining accurate project records, files, and documentation according to DOS requirements
- Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, budgets, and reporting requirements.
- Support quality assurance processes and follow up on recommendations for improvement.
- Assist in identifying project risks and tracking mitigation actions.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Team Collaboration
- Maintain effective working relationships with government counterparts, implementing partners, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in coordination meetings and provide updates on project implementation progress.
- Support capacity-building activities, trainings, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with project team members to promote teamwork, accountability, and effective communication.
- Perform other project-related duties as assigned to support successful project implementation.
Required Qualifications
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, project management, business administration, or related field; Advanced degree in the related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 - 4 years of progressive responsibility experience in program management, preferably within PEPFAR or Department of State-funded health programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with technical, finance, and MEL teams to ensure coordinated and quality program delivery.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and coordination skills with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to represent the project to senior government, donor, and partner audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools; familiarity with donor reporting systems preferred.
- Experience working with different stakeholders including government, development partners, implementing partners and other stakeholders
- Experience working in Botswana or similar contexts strongly preferred.
- Availability to travel to project implementation sites as needed.
