Overview
Jhpiego Mozambique is seeking a highly qualified and experienced a Training Specialist, an assignment [proposal/contingent upon award], who will lead the design, development, adaptation, and delivery of training programmes and capacity-strengthening initiatives under the project. The Specialist will be responsible for developing training curricula, manuals, facilitation guides, and learning materials, while ensuring that training approaches are participatory, context-appropriate, gender-responsive, and aligned with project objectives. The role will support the capacity development of stakeholders at national, provincial, district, community, and institutional levels through Training of Trainers (ToT) and other learning methodologies.
Responsibilities
The Training Specialist will be responsible for:
- Designing and developing training curricula, learning packages, facilitation guides, manuals, and educational materials related to project objectives.
- Conducting training needs assessments to identify capacity gaps among target groups and stakeholders.
- Developing and implementing training strategies, methodologies, and capacity-building plans.
- Facilitating training sessions, workshops, seminars, and Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes for diverse audiences.
- Ensuring that training content integrates gender equality, gender-based violence (GBV), sexual and reproductive health (SRH), safeguarding, and social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) approaches.
- Adapting training materials to different cultural contexts, local realities, literacy levels, and target populations, including adolescents and young people.
- Applying participatory and adult-learning methodologies that promote engagement, knowledge retention, and practical application.
- Supporting the development of digital learning tools and blended learning approaches where appropriate.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to trainers, facilitators, and implementing partners.
- Monitoring and evaluating training effectiveness and recommending improvements based on participant feedback and learning outcomes.
- Collaborating closely with technical specialists and project teams to ensure consistency and quality of training interventions.
- Preparing technical reports, training documentation, and lessons learned related to capacity-building activities.
- Supporting the implementation of project activities and contributing to the achievement of project deliverables and targets.
Required Qualifications
- The Training Specialist shall hold, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or Educational Sciences, (preferably a Master’s degree) in Education Sciences, Pedagogy, Educational;
- Psychology, or equivalent areas, and have at least 8 years of professional experience in the design and delivery of training programmes, including curriculum design, pedagogical methodologies, and the development of training packages, including experience as a trainer of trainers (ToT);
- The candidate shall demonstrate experience in programmes addressing gender, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, and social and behaviour change communication (SBCC), particularly at community level and among adolescents and young people.
- A proven track record in adapting content to different cultural contexts and literacy levels is required. Experience in seminar and workshop facilitation techniques is required;
- The candidate shall demonstrate mastery of active learning techniques, experience in preparing manuals, guides, and teaching materials, and familiarity with digital learning platforms;
- Excellent workshop facilitation skills and clear communication adapted to diverse audiences are required;
- Fluency in Portuguese is required; English is desirable;
- The technical team shall be composed of additional personnel as required to ensure the effective operationalisation of activities at field level;
- The organisation shall present its proposed team structure and, for each expert, indicate the individual level of effort, in accordance with the methodological proposal and work plan to be submitted.
