Overview
Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University USA, a global leader in improving health care for women and families, is looking to hire Communications Manager, who will be responsible for raising the profile and visibility of Jhpiego, and communicating the work of Jhpiego to a variety of audiences of Jhpiego’s work. The Communications Manager will develop a communications strategy and a corresponding documentation and dissemination plan in consultation with the Senior Management Team to ensure that the right information is available at the right time to the right people for program and project success. The position will also maintain Jhpiego-specific knowledge repositories containing both published and unpublished materials and promote knowledge exchange within the project.
Responsibilities
Communications Coordination:
- Collaborate with the Jhpiego senior management team to formulate and execute a comprehensive communication strategy along with a documentation and dissemination plan to effectively communicate about the Jhpiego portfolio in general and Jhpiego projects in particular.
- Lead the process of engaging a communication firm/s to provide tailored communication services based on project needs.
- Provide support to Portfolio Leads and Project Leads in developing project communication plans aligned with organizational objectives and donor requirements.
SBCC Activities:
- Manage end to end SBCC activities of the assigned portfolio/program.
- Lead the design and implementation of SBCC initiatives in alignment with program’s scope of work.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and cultural and religious sensitivity of all SBCC and media content.
- Coordinate with allied departments, media houses, production teams, and implementing partners to ensure smooth execution of activities.
- Support joint planning and approvals processes with government stakeholders for communication themes and messaging.
- Represent Jhpiego in national and provincial platforms, consultations, advocacy events, and related forums.
- Develop program workplan and quarterly reports.
- Develop and review SBCC content, briefs, scripts, talking points, and advocacy materials for media and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the drafting and development of concept notes, proposals, and donor-ready documents for future funding and collaboration opportunities.
- Coordinate internally with Program, Technical, and Support teams to ensure SBCC activities are evidence-based and aligned with program data.
Knowledge Management:
- Develop a knowledge management strategy in consultation with the Senior Management Team and Jhpiego backstop staff in the US to ensure the availability of relevant information for program success.
- Organize, catalog, and enter knowledge assets into Jhpiego’s central electronic library.
- Promote knowledge exchange and learning opportunities in collaboration with the central Jhpiego KM unit.
Visual Representation and Publications:
- Coordinate with Project Leads and select communication firm/s to create visually appealing presentations illustrating the organization's achievements.
- Collate information from key meetings and notifications.
- Develop success stories, blogs, and social media posts reflecting program achievements.
- Coordinate the capture of compelling photographs in the field and during key events, maintaining project-wise photobanks.
Communication and Outreach:
- Periodically update HQ on key activities and achievements, sharing success stories and posts for social media.
- Liaise with communication sections of relevant government departments for communication through official government social platforms.
- Ensure compliance with branding and marking plans for projects.
- Maintain contacts with print/electronic media for wider dissemination.
- Write stories/narratives about Jhpiego's work and share them with media outlets.
- Work closely with the Jhpiego team and the communication firm to develop accurate, creative story ideas for various media.
Material Development and Capacity Building:
- Coordinate with projects/programs to create effective IEC materials, job aids, publications, and presentations as needed.
- Develop capacity-building activities for staff to enhance their ability to communicate project achievements and position Jhpiego effectively.
- Undertake any other tasks assigned
Event Coordination:
- Assist in coordinating public affairs, media, and external events.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or other relevant areas from a reputed institute. Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- At least 7-8 years’ experience in communications and public relations, knowledge management, SBCC, and marketing preferably in the context of international development or healthcare.
- Familiarity with communication and SBCC strategies, branding, and media relations.
- Understanding of concepts, tools and features of knowledge dissemination via web-based and print publishing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be a leading criterion in selection
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools for media and communications.
- Willingness to travel nationally to project sites
