In the BioAI department, we advance the boundaries of healthcare and medical science through a combination of biology and artificial intelligence expertise. Notably, we are developing the next-generation vaccines and biopharmaceuticals for cancer treatment and prevention and therapy of infectious diseases. By joining us, you will contribute to this effort in collaboration with scientists, engineers and biologists from both InstaDeep and BioNTech and have the opportunity to contribute to scientific papers submitted to leading conferences and journals.
In this position, you will work closely with our engineering and research teams to design, implement, and deploy robust and scalable systems that support large-scale biological data processing, and experimentation pipelines. Your work will directly enable faster research cycles and more reliable insights in precision medicine.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement efficient algorithms and backend components for large-scale biological data analysis and processing.
- Develop and maintain software infrastructure, including APIs, databases, and distributed computing environments, to support research and production workflows.
- Contribute to the automation and deployment of pipelines across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Ensure code quality, testing, and documentation to maintain high engineering standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (software engineers, ML researchers, and biologists) to translate research needs into reliable software solutions.
Requirements
- On-going Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency with Linux environments.
- Experience with software development best practices (testing, modular design, version control).
- Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data management workflows.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Work permit for the considered location.
Desirable
- Experience with Docker and Git-based workflows.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to APIs, microservices, or distributed systems.
- Interest in bioinformatics or applying software engineering to biological data.
- Familiarity with data visualization or basic machine learning concepts is a plus (not required).
