Public Funding Manager

Are you looking for a place where ambition meets real impact? Do you have a proven track record in securing public funding? Do you want real ownership, strategic influence, and the opportunity to evolve alongside a fast-growing start-up?

At Grale, an award-winning ClimateTech company revolutionizing sustainable alternatives to plastics, we’re now looking for an exceptional Public Funding Manager. Here you’ll have the freedom and support to grow - with the opportunity to shape your role, develop new skills, and advance your career as we scale globally.

Public Funding Manager

Grale develops next-generation sustainable alternatives designed to replace fossil-based plastics. As our Public Funding Manager, you will play a key role in securing public funding that supports Grale’s R&D, product development, and scale-up initiatives.

Your mission is to own the execution of Grale’s public funding pipeline: from identifying the right grant opportunities to leading high-quality applications and managing awarded funding throughout its lifecycle. You will work at the intersection of advanced R&D and commercial scalability, ensuring that technical initiatives are matched with relevant national and international funding programs.

Working closely with our founders, and technical teams, you will translate R&D and scale-up initiatives into competitive, well-structured grant applications while supporting Grale’s long-term growth.

You will be the internal expert on public funding processes, requirements, and timelines - ensuring that Grale applies to the right programs, at the right time, with the right execution.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify, analyse, and apply for relevant public funding opportunities, including Swedish, EU and international grants, subsidies and innovation programs.

  • Structure and scope complete grant applications based on Grale’s R&D, product development and scale-up initiatives, in close collaboration with the CTO and technical team.

  • Lead the full grant application process end-to-end: from application planning and documentation to writing, budgeting, submission and follow-up.

  • Write clear, compelling applications in collaboration with technical experts, articulating technical development, innovation, TRL progression, impact, and commercial relevance.

  • Act as the main point of contact towards funding bodies and public authorities throughout the application and post-award process.

  • Build and coordinate consortia for larger national, EU or international grants by engaging relevant research institutions, industry partners, and public actors when required.

  • Manage the full grant lifecycle post-award, contributing to project setup including reporting, documentation, audits, milestone tracking and communication with funding bodies.

  • Continuously improve Grale’s internal grant processes, templates, documentation and success rate.

What you bring:

  • Proven experience working hands-on with documented track record in public funding, research grants, or large innovation programs (EU, national or international).

  • Demonstrated experience writing and submitting successful grant applications.

  • Strong understanding of funding bodies’ requirements, evaluation criteria, compliance rules, and reporting processes.

  • Solid financial understanding, with the ability to contribute to budgets, cost structures, and resource planning within grant applications.

  • Ability to understand and clearly communicate complex technical, scientific and commercial content.

  • Exceptional writing skills in both English and Swedish.

  • Experience with consortium-based funding programs (EU or international) is highly meritorious.

We also see that you:

  • Are comfortable working closely with technical teams and founders, translating defined initiatives into funded projects.

  • Are highly structured, detail-oriented, and confident owning complex processes end-to-end.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Are a self-starter with strong execution skills and follow-through.

  • Are motivated by long-term impact, sustainability, and building something meaningful.

What you get:

  • The chance to be part of a fast-growing startup making measurable environmental impact.

  • Work alongside award-winning founders featured on Forbes 30 under 30 and awarded Prince Daniel Fellowship.

  • A role with clear ownership and mandate within public funding execution.

  • Beautiful, modern office in the heart of Stockholm.

  • Free daily breakfast.

  • Wellness grant + access to gym and health activities.

  • Weekly afterworks and a collaborative, high-energy culture.

  • Opportunities for professional and personal development.

Imagine a world free from microplastics where our planet thrives. At Grale, we’re not just imagining it - we’re building it. Plastics are made from petroleum and remain in our environment for thousands of years, while microplastics have already found their way into our oceans, food, and even our bodies. By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea. We’re here to change that - and we’re looking for passionate people to join us.
