Steering & braking system owner
Einride
Job Description
Want to be part of transforming road freight – for good? Einride is showing the world a new way to move, based on the latest digital, electric and autonomous technologies. Through freight capacity as a service, we enable businesses around the world to accelerate towards their sustainability goals.
Founded in 2016, Einride became the first company in the world to deploy a cab-less autonomous electric vehicle on a public road (Sweden, 2019). In 2022, we were the first to successfully operate such a vehicle on a US public road. Today our award-winning technology has been launched across 8 countries (and counting). Our clients are some of the world’s biggest shippers, including Fortune 500 companies. We are also operating Sweden’s largest truck dedicated public charging network and counting.
About the role
As the technical authority for steering and braking, you’ll own architecture, requirements, safety concept, supplier leadership, and validation - integrating across software, hardware, chassis, safety, and suppliers. Deliver fail-operational, homologation-ready systems across multiple vehicle platforms and form factors. In practice, that means you will:
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of steering and braking systems from concept to production.
- Lead supplier technical dialogues and roadmap alignment; run design reviews and change control.
- Scan and evaluate state-of-the-art technologies and new suppliers; maintain a living technology radar and proofs-of-concept pipeline.
- Define requirements, interfaces, and performance targets in collaboration with software, hardware, chassis, safety, and supplier teams.
- Drive system integration across software, hardware, chassis, safety, and suppliers; manage software/hardware drop cadence.
- Own technical safety for actuation: derive system-level safety requirements, redundancy and diagnostics concepts; lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and contribute to system-level Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA); ensure actions are closed with suppliers and internal teams.
- Partner with the Safety team on hazard analysis and risk assessment and Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) allocation; support the safety case with verification and validation evidence.
- Act as the go-to technical authority for steering and braking; communicate clearly with executives and partners.
- Ensure multi-platform and multiple form-factor integration of steering and braking systems.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years developing steering and/or braking systems for road vehicles (automotive or heavy vehicles).
- Strong vehicle dynamics foundation (kinematics and compliance, lateral and longitudinal dynamics, braking performance, stability interactions, vehicle dynamics control).
- Hands-on systems engineering (requirements management, interface control, trade-off leadership) and supplier leadership.
- Practical experience with technical safety for actuation and leading Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis; familiarity with functional-safety workflows including redundancy concepts and cybersecurity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable leading high-stakes technical reviews.
Nice to have
- Experience with redundant systems from the autonomous domain (for example: dual-channel steer-by-wire or brake-by-wire actuation, redundant sensing or computing, and fail-operational architectures applied to Level-4 autonomous vehicles or safety-critical robotics).
This is a full-time position based at our office. Of course, we have a modern and hybrid set-up that allows you to partly work from home but our expectations is that you also are present at our office in Gothenburg or Stockholm.
Please note that as part of our standard recruitment process, we conduct a background control on the final candidate for this role. This may include verification of education, employment history, any relevant professional certifications or other information that may be of our interest.
You will be part of a truly diverse, high performing team with a common passion for sustainability and making things happen in an innovative way. We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible since selection and interviews are held continually.
At Einride, we are innovators, building solutions the world has never seen before – but urgently needs. That’s why we take action, and it’s why we are always eager to be challenged. We know that our best innovations come from having a diverse mix of people, including those of different experiences, career paths, and walks of life. By coming together and sharing our perspectives openly – by disagreeing, discussing, and committing – we deliver greater impact.
