Investment Director Private Credit
Climate Fund Managers
Introduction
Climate Fund Managers is a climate-focused blended finance investment manager operating in emerging markets across Asia, Africa and Latin America. We raise and deploy blended climate finance funds, working in partnership to deliver climate-resilient solutions at scale and pace.
With over USD 2.8 billion in assets under management and targeting an additional USD 4 billion, our private equity and private credit facilities address key areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including: renewable energy; waste and maritime; energy transition and green hydrogen; and sustainable cities and the built environment.
We currently have over 50 active projects across our Climate Investor One, Two and Three equity funds and have recently expanded into private credit through the GAIA Climate Loan Fund.
Our funds are supported by public and private sector organisations. Public capital is deployed strategically to balance risk and mobilize private sector capital, enabling investment across the project lifecycle - from development to construction and operation.
Established in 2015, Climate Fund Managers is a joint venture between Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks of the Sanlam Group of South Africa, with offices in The Hague, Cape Town, Singapore, and Bogotá.
About Private Credit at Climate Fund Managers
We currently manage a portfolio of equity funds focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation and have recently expanded into private credit through the GAIA Climate Loan Fund (“GAIA”).
This expansion builds on our blended finance model and enables us to provide a broader range of financing solutions, complementing our existing equity platform and supporting a broader range of climate infrastructure projects.
Through GAIA, we are able to:
- Provide debt financing to support climate infrastructure projects
- Offer flexible, structured credit solutions tailored to emerging market conditions
- Support both new investments and existing portfolio companies, including follow-on financing
- Provide financing to a range of counterparties, including private, public and quasi-public entities
GAIA will provide loans to predominantly climate adaptation projects in emerging markets, with a focus on Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The fund targets a total size of USD 1.48 billion, with first close at USD 600 million achieved in 2025 and final close anticipated in 2027. The fund was co-founded by MUFG Bank, FinDev Canada, and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the world’s largest dedicated climate fund.
GAIA’s financing activities focus on climate resilience, alongside climate mitigation, across sectors including food and water security, infrastructure, the built environment, ecosystems and ecosystem services. The fund invests across emerging markets in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with a particular focus on LDCs SIDS.
