Climate Fund Managers B.V. (CFM) is a leading blended finance fund manager dedicated to securing a sustainable future by investing across global emerging markets. CFM has a long-term vision to structure cutting edge financing facilities around thematic areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, water and oceans, sustainable land use, and sustainable cities. CFM is established as a joint venture between the Dutch development bank FMO and Sanlam InfraWorks – part of the Sanlam Group of South Africa with offices in with offices in The Hague, Cape Town, Windhoek, Singapore and Bogota.

CFM is subject to supervision by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (Autoriteit Financiële Markten or “AFM”) and/or the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. or “DNB”) and is authorised to act as investment manager (beheerder).

Job Purpose

We are seeking an Investment Director to strengthen our Investments and Asset Management team. This role will report to the Regional Head of Latin America and will be ideally based in Brazil (Sao Paolo (preferred) or Rio de Janeiro) . The Investment Director will interface CFM divisions and offices.

As a leader in the sustainable finance sector and a pioneer in the renewable energy, water sanitation, oceans infrastructure and green hydrogen sectors, CFM is committed to driving positive environmental impact through strategic investments in climate-related projects. The Investment Director will play a pivotal role in originating and executing on our investment strategies, managing a portfolio of water sanitation, waste valorisation opportunitiesand oceans infrastructure assets, contributing to the transformation of the LatAm economy and the transition to a more sustainable future.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Management and execution of CI-2 / Climate Investor Two Fund Managers Investment and Fundraising Strategy
    • Originate investment opportunities that align with the fund’s climate objectives, with a particular emphasis on all themes relevant in the Brazilian market that are in alignment with the CI2 mandate primarily namely water sanitation, waste transformation and oceans infrastructure projects in LatAm, taking into consideration ESG factors and the potential for positive environmental impact.

  1. Portfolio Management
    • Invest and manage a diverse portfolio of water and sanitation and oceans infrastructure assets with a focus on strategic projects to CFM in Brazil.

  1. Due Diligence
    • Conduct thorough due diligence on potential investment opportunities, assessing financial viability, evaluating technology readiness, environmental sustainability, market potential and key risk factors, supported by the regional Latam team.

  1. Deal Structuring
    • Collaborate with the broader investment team to structure deals, negotiate terms, and secure financing for water, sanitation and oceans infrastructure projects in LatAm.

  1. Risk Management
    • Monitor and mitigate risks associated with water, sanitation and oceans infrastructure investments, implementing strategies to preserve capital and maximize returns.

  1. Impact Measurement
    • Maintain robust impact measurement frameworks to track and report on the environmental benefits of investments.

  1. Stakeholder Relations
    • Foster strong relationships with project developers, partners, and stakeholders in the water, sanitation, and oceans infrastructure ecosystem.

  1. Compliance
    • Ensure investments are compliant with all regulatory and ethical guidelines, staying up to date with relevant regulations and industry standards.

  1. Team Management
    • Provide management, mentorship, and guidance to junior investment professionals, promoting a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment as it may be relevant, while interacting closely with other Latam team members based in the region.
  2. Fundraising and growth opportunities
    • Identify and highlight opportunities to seek new capital investors that may align with CFM’s products and growth strategies and support any such initiatives as requested.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Chartered Accountant, CFA or Engineer with MBA or equivalent master’s degree
  • A minimum of 15-years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance with a strong track record in deal structuring and financial reporting in the Renewable Energy, Water, Waste to Energy and Oceans Infrastructure sector
  • Strong analytical, communication and negotiation abilities
  • English and Spanish language proficiency in addition to native Portuguese
  • Proven ability to work across technical/financial and legal aspects of a transaction and work with various specialists internally and with government/shareholder/lender type stakeholders to provide transaction leadership.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and ESG Principles, compliance requirements, including but not limited to IFRS standards
  • Ability to plan and prioritise effectively: strong project / process and team management skills
  • Ability to apply sound business judgment and an analytical, pragmatic, and creative approach to problem solving
  • Technically proficient (Advanced) in Excel, Word, PowerPoint essential
  • Experience and significant proven track record of with working in Brazil and other LatAm jurisdictions
  • Work permit and residency in Brazil
