Project Overview
Cambridge Spark is seeking independent, high caliber Data & AI tutors to deliver targeted support to learners on one of our intensive ML & AI programmes.
This is a project-based contract engagement to deliver tutoring as part of our suite of education programmes The successful consultant will act as an external specialist, working with a group of learners to ensure that they are progressing well through the programme and offering technical guidance and support.
The project is UK-based with project-specific onsite delivery. The consultant must be able to deliver on-site in one of Bristol, Edinburgh, London or Manchester. All-inclusive rates should factor in localised travel.


Key Deliverables & Scope of Work
The tutor would be responsible for the following scope of work:

  • Facilitating in-person sessions, guiding learners through collaborative assignments
  • Technical session support for virtual sessions run through Teams, answering questions, managing the chat, and giving assistance to groups during small group tasks
  • Providing ad hoc support via drop-in Teams calls or our online portal
  • Ensuring that the programme runs effectively, identifying and raising any issues to the project team

Required Expertise & Capabilities
To successfully deliver this project, the independent consultant/services provider must demonstrate:

Essential Criteria
The ideal tutor will be:
  • Well-versed in the mathematics behind machine learning models
  • A capable python coder
  • Comfortable with SQL
  • Experienced with using LLMs and other Generative AI tools, including agentic AI
  • A practiced small-group teacher
Desirable Criteria
Whilst there are no specific qualifications we would ask for as a requirement, the kind of profile we are interested in would be PhD students studying scientific subjects with a heavy focus on Machine Learning, Data Science, or AI, recent Masters' Graduates in the same areas, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Week 3: Ensembles and Model Tuning
  • Week 4: Neural Networks and Language Models
  • Week 5: LLMs: Customisation, Managing State and RAG
  • Week 6: Agentic AI
  • Week 7: Responsible AI
  • Week 8: Production Engineering

Contractual Nature of the Engagement
This engagement is for a specific, project-based outcome and is open to independent contractors, freelancers, or boutique consultancies operating via a Limited Company or appropriate vehicle.
  • Substitution: The right of substitution applies, provided the substitute possesses equivalent skills and qualifications to meet the project deliverables.
  • Equipment: The consultant is expected to provide their own equipment and tools necessary to complete the assignment.
  • Commercial Protections: The services provider is free to provide services to other clients during this engagement, provided there is no direct conflict of interest or breach of confidentiality regarding Cambridge Spark’s proprietary materials and client relationships.
