What you’ll get to do

As a CFD Simulation Engineer, you will be a key technical contributor to the thermal-hydraulic design and analysis of our SMRs. The role is simulation-driven and focused on characterising coolant flow, heat transfer, and fluid–structure interactions in reactor components and systems, and translating results into concrete design guidance. You will thrive in this role if you:

Key Responsibilities

• Perform thermal-hydraulic and CFD analyses of the system and reactor components.

• Model fluid structure interactions and heat transfer within reactor internals.

• Develop and implement proprietary analysis methods and models where standard approaches fall short.

• Produce detailed reports and design recommendations from simulation results.

• Critically review technical documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.

• Collaborate with mechanical design, safety, and R&D teams to feed CFD results back into the design loop.

• Ensure analyses meet applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and quality processes.

Who you’ll get to work with

The CFD Simulation Engineer sits in the Mechanical Engineering Team within Blykalla, and reports to the Head of Mechanical Engineering. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla.

Who you are

You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. We value personnel chemistry and strive to create a workplace where you enjoy coming to. There are however a few things that we think will help in order for you to succeed in this role, these are:

• Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.

• 8 or more years of experience in CFD analysis, ideally in a regulated or safety-critical industry.

• Proficiency in commercial CFD tools such as Star-CCM+, Ansys Fluent, or equivalent.

• Deep working knowledge of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.

• Experience running and post-processing simulations on HPC infrastructure.

• Experience working in regulated industries with structured engineering processes, safety regulations, and quality requirements.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Fluency in spoken and written English.

• Experience from the nuclear industry, including familiarity with nuclear codes and standards (e.g. ASME, RCC) and nuclear quality assurance processes.

• Experience with risk assessment methods such as FMEA.

• Fluency in Swedish.
