About the role

Following our successful expansion into the U.S. and continued growth across Europe, we are seeking a Head of Infrastructure to help drive our Engineering function from our Austin hub.

Reporting directly to our VP of Digital, this person will lead our Support, Observability, and Platform teams and transform how we operate. They will take us from a strong operations function to a platform-as-a-service environment: self-service, automated, and built so engineering teams ship without waiting on infrastructure.

You'll own the platform behind Aika, our AI platform for clinical trials: a complex, multi-tenant Kubernetes environment running LLMs locally on GPU/TPU infrastructure. Security isn't a checkbox here. Strict tenant isolation is a core architectural requirement, because our customers are pharmaceutical companies trusting us with clinical data.

Who We're Looking For:

The team you'll inherit is highly skilled and the foundations are solid. Your mandate is not to maintain them but to evolve them. We're looking for someone who has taken an infrastructure team from "keeping the lights on" to running a platform as a product. We move like a startup (experiment, build, iterate), but we ship a serious product, and every change goes through the quality and security gates that a regulated healthtech environment demands. This person should be able to make both true at once.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow the Support, Observability, and Platform teams, elevating a strong team into a high-leverage platform organization.
  • Drive the transformation from operations-centric infrastructure to a platform service model: self-service, automation-first, with golden paths that let product teams deploy, scale, and troubleshoot independently.
  • Own and evolve a complex multi-tenant Kubernetes architecture running LLM inference locally on GPU/TPU workloads across GCP and AWS.
  • Make security a first-class platform capability: tenant isolation, workload identity, secrets management, and policy enforcement designed into the platform, not bolted on.
  • Raise the bar on observability and reliability: SLOs, incident response, and proactive capacity management for demanding, data-intensive AI workloads.
  • Partner with engineering, data, security, and customer-facing stakeholders to shape technical builds, unblock delivery, and translate business needs into platform capabilities.
  • Balance speed with rigor: enable fast experimentation while enforcing the quality and security gates our product and customers require.

Requirements

✅ Must-haves

  • 8+ years in infrastructure/platform/SRE roles, including 3+ years leading technical teams.
  • A track record of transforming infrastructure organizations: you've taken a team from "keeping the lights on" to running a platform as a product.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes in production: multi-tenant clusters, GPU/TPU scheduling, autoscaling, and hard isolation boundaries.
  • Strong security instincts for multi-tenant architectures: RBAC, network policy, workload identity, secrets, and policy-as-code.
  • Experience operating across GCP and AWS, and with data infrastructure (SQL, vector databases) supporting AI workloads.
  • Platform-engineering mindset: internal developer platforms, self-service tooling, automation over toil.
  • Strong stakeholder management: you can align engineering, security, and business leaders around a technical roadmap and drive it to done.
  • Comfort operating in a startup: pragmatic, bias to build, but disciplined where it counts.

Technical Skills:

  • Expert-level Kubernetes (multi-tenancy, RBAC, operators, Helm/Kustomize, GPU device plugins, MIG, node pools).
  • IaC (Terraform) and GitOps (ArgoCD) as the default operating model.
  • CI/CD design and developer enablement (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitbucket Pipelines).
  • Observability stack: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, and the judgment to turn telemetry into reliability outcomes.
  • Container and supply-chain security, secrets management, and policy enforcement (OPA/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, Vault, GCP Secret Manager).
  • GCP services (GKE, AlloyDB, CloudSQL, BigQuery, Cloud Storage).
  • GPU/TPU workload optimization: scheduling, bin-packing, CUDA runtime, cost/performance tuning for local LLM inference.
  • Vector databases and data-layer operations for AI applications.
  • Strong Linux and networking fundamentals; scripting in Python/Bash.

✨ Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience running LLM or ML inference infrastructure at scale (a strong differentiator).
  • AWS equivalents of the GCP services above.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, ENS, GxP), given our regulated customer base.
