Job Overview
The Civil Engineer – Processes will spearhead the preparation of SOPs for various construction activities, standardization of construction workflows & enforce quality compliances. This role requires 10–15 years of proven civil engineering leadership combined with sharp commercial acumen. The position involves travel to African countries to audit physical project progress, verify contractor invoices against execution, and eliminate over-billing.
1. Financial Auditing & Invoice Verification
Bill & Invoice Auditing: Review and validate monthly progress billings, contractor invoices, and payment certificates to detect over-billing, duplicate charges, or front-loading.
Physical Verification: Cross-reference invoiced quantities with actual site progress, material delivery logs, and survey measurements during international field visits.
Variation Management: Audit and validate complex claims for variation orders, change directives, and price escalations to ensure tight contract compliance.
Forensic Cost Review: Reconcile differences between planned budgets, actual expenditures, and material takeoff sheets to identify and eliminate cost leaks.
2. Process Design & Standardization
Process Alignment: Work closely with the Lead – Processes to establish, baseline, and enforce uniform Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all African project sites.
Lean Construction: Introduce resource-efficient construction methodologies to successfully mitigate supply chain disruptions common in cross-border logistics.
3. Cross-Border Compliance & Site Quality
Technical Site Audits: Conduct comprehensive on-site engineering inspections across African project sites to ensure structural integrity and premium workmanship quality.
Regulatory Governance: Navigate and verify strict adherence to local building codes, national environmental regulations, and safety standards in host nations.
Risk Reporting: Issue immediate, transparent corrective action reports to the Lead – Processes regarding structural defects, project delays, or procedural bottlenecks.
4. Multinational Coordination & Escalation
Unified Progress Tracking: Align remote contractors, design teams, and corporate executives onto a single source of truth for milestones and cash flow.
Internal Reporting: Deliver concise weekly financial-technical dashboards directly to the Lead – Processes, highlighting project velocity, process bottlenecks, and cost savings achieved through invoice corrections.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management from premier institute.
Experience: 10 to 15 years of comprehensive experience combining infrastructure engineering, project controls, and quantity surveying/commercial auditing.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness and physical readiness to travel frequently to various African countries.
Technical Capabilities: Advanced capability in cost engineering, bill of quantities (BoQ) checking, and commercial dispute resolution with a proven track record of catching fraudulent or inaccurate billings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory; professional proficiency in French is highly advantageous for regional operations.
Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional), MRICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is strongly preferred.
Software- Proficiency in MS project and AutoCAD is required.
