Job description

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Graduate Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering; post-graduate qualification in Highway/ Transportation Engineering or equivalent from a reputed institution.
  • At least 10 years experience in planning, geometric design, detailed engineering, cost estimation and drawing preparation for road and highway projects.
  • Must have hands-on experience in design of urban roads, state highways and national highways including flexible and rigid pavement design as per IRC standards.
  • Proficiency in geometric design and preparation of road designs including horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, intersections, interchanges, ROW requirements, and traffic engineering elements.
  • Must have knowledge of hydrological analysis for road drainage including culvert design, side drains, catch drains, and storm water management along road corridors.
  • Candidate must be proficient in design and drawing software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MX Roads, or equivalent; and analysis tools for pavement design (IITPAVE or equivalent).
  • Must have thorough knowledge of applicable IRC codes, MoRTH specifications, NHAI standards, and relevant IS codes. International experience preferable.
  • Experience in conducting topographic survey interpretation, traffic studies, pavement condition surveys, and preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs).
  • Experience in site visits, client interactions for technical discussions and presentations, and preparation of Tender/Bid documents for road and highway projects.
  • Should be familiar with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of the Road Engineer will be, but not limited to, the following:

  • Carry out site visits, data collection and meetings with stakeholders to firm up project scope and requirements at an early stage.
  • Prepare geometric design of roads and highways including horizontal and vertical alignments, super-elevation, widening, sight distances, and cross-sectional elements as per IRC/ applicable standards.
  • Design flexible and rigid pavements using recognised methods and software; prepare pavement design reports with justification of layer compositions and material specifications.
  • Design road drainage systems including culverts, side drains, catch water drains, and kerb drainage in coordination with the hydrology and drainage team.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, typical cross-sections, L-sections, plan-profile sheets, intersection and junction layouts using AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent.
  • Prepare design calculations, design basis reports, and construction specifications for all road components in accordance with MoRTH/IRC/NHAI/ applicable guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed quantity estimates and cost estimates; provide inputs to BOQ and rate analysis for road works.
  • Prepare and review tender drawings and tender documents including specifications and schedule of quantities for road design.
  • Coordinate with bridge/structures, utilities, drainage and urban planning team for integrated road corridor design.
  • Provide required technical information to QS/estimators, Infrastructure Expert, and Project Manager in a timely manner.
  • Respond to all technical queries from stakeholders/ contractors during feasibility, design, bidding, and construction stages.
  • Prepare or review traffic engineering elements including road signage, markings, safety barriers, lighting layouts, and road furniture.
  • Carry out any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the HOD or Project Manager
