Job Summary
Engineering Manager shall be responsible for managing the technical and engineering aspects of project from conceptual stage to commissioning. The role requires co-ordination across all disciplines ( civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, naval architecture, marine etc). ensuring compliance with the technical standards, safety, budget and schedule.
Responsibilities
Engineering planning & Coordination:
- Develop the overall engineering execution plan for the port project.
- Coordinate with design consultants, contractors, and internal teams (civil, marine, mechanical, electrical) on design and drawings.
- Ensure alignment between engineering design, construction plans, and project milestones
Design Management:
- Oversee and review detailed engineering designs for port components (berths, yard pavement, stormwater drainage, culverts, minor bridges, buildings, sheds, dredging areas, utilities, etc.) including value Engineering.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with port authority standards, maritime regulations, and international codes (e.g., PIANC, IMO).
- Review and assist project director in approving design deliverables, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Interface Management:
- Coordinate interfaces between different engineering disciplines (e.g., civil vs. MEP, marine vs. landside, ICD vs SEZ etc).
- Ensure smooth integration of design with construction and procurement activities.
- Liaise with stakeholders including port authorities, environmental agencies, and consultants
Technical Oversight During Construction:
- Support the construction team by resolving engineering queries and issues (RFIs, field changes, design clarifications) from time to time.
- Ensure engineering solutions are implemented correctly on-site and meet the intended
- functionality.
- Conduct regular site visits and technical inspections.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence and collaboration
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and contract requirements.
- Verify adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in engineering practices.
- Review contractor and vendor compliance with engineering specs and performance requirements.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate engineering-related risks (technical, regulatory, environmental).
- Participate in risk assessments, value engineering, and constructability reviews.
- Budget & Schedule Control:
- Support project control teams in managing engineering budgets and resource allocation.
- Monitor progress of engineering deliverables against project timelines.
- Implement corrective actions in case of design or schedule delays.
Bill Certification :
- Assist the Project director in review and approval of running bills submitted by the Consultants duly reviewing its completeness in terms of quantity measurements, quality and other contractual obligations.
- Documentation & Handover:
- Ensure accurate documentation of engineering records, as-built drawings, and technical manuals.
- Support commissioning and handover activities with validated engineering input.
- Close out engineering deliverables in alignment with project completion.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Masters in structural Engineering would be preferable
- Minimum 10 plus years as designer for Port projects
- Involved in interface management between various disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, coastal, numerical modeling, etc.
- Good communication skills in English
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and peak execution periods
