Role Description
- The Construction Manager will be responsible for supervising the constructor contractors from the start of the engineering-construction contract, and throughout the period of construction of the different sections and stages of the SEZ/ industrial zone, the nature of the work to be carried out varying according to of these sections and stages of the Project.
- He/she will have strong skills in engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract management and operational management in a multicultural environment.
- He/she will have experience working on PPP infrastructure projects; and will have a very good knowledge of major building projects. He/she is fluent in French both orally and in writing and can work in good quality English, especially oral. He/she will have significant experience working in an environment like that of the project.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day construction management of the project in accordance with SEZ/ industrial zone design criteria and codes.
- Conducting Meetings with engineers, architects, and contractors on an ongoing basis regarding project objectives and progress.
- Manage project quality control and cost.
- Ensuring the construction process starts and ends on time and ensuring daily and weekly deadlines are met.
- Coordinate and lead activities with contractore, EPC, designer, suppliers, administration.
- Assist in construction site inspections and oversee architectural/engineering design projects and closely work with staff to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Prepares, supervises and approves the development of Project Execution Plan [from construction point of view], and its implementation plus ensuring Lessons Learned are properly documented throughout the life of the project including Project Close-out.
- Manage the construction effort and be the construction representative of our company with Client. To plan, develop and organize the construction effort to formulate the most cost-effective plan to timely completion within budget and to implement the execution of that plan.
- Responsible for implementation of the scope of work as related to construction/ fabrication, pre-commissioning, load-out, installation, hook-up and commissioning of the facilities in conformance with project specifications, Scope of Work, and in accordance with the approved Project Schedule.
- Meeting regularly with clients, third parties and other managers to report on progress.
- Monitor and report to the board project details, including progress, risks and opportunities in a timely manner.
- Ensures all changes to specifications, work scope and drawings are documented.
- Define clear roles & responsibilities and deliverable requirements in terms of both scope and schedule to all the team members.
- Review man-hours and duration forecasts to completion for construction and man-hours and resource requirements.
- Monitor construction productivity and schedule performance and investigate reasons for less than satisfactory performance. Provide recommendations and institute measures for improvement by modification to operating procedures/work instructions.
- Adhere to Arise Group HSE standards and promote safety culture among the ranks throughout the Company.
- Maintain a proper communication External/ Internal on construction projects.
- Any other ad-hoc projects and duties as required by the management.
Profile of the ideal candidate
- Engineering degree with a minimum of 10 years of proven experience in monitoring, implementation of construction activities.
- Proven and relevant experience in infrastructure/road PPP/construction projects. Experience in Africa or emerging countries is also an asset.
- Previous experience in contract management of high-value projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain close relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including local and government officials, industry partners, and institutional partners.
- Interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written in French (excellent command) and English (good quality especially oral). Speaking a local language is a plus
- Proven ability to plan, organize and prioritize effectively.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethical leadership.
- Proven ability to perform management functions, excellent written and oral communication skills and in-depth knowledge of construction industry best practices required
- Must be able to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
