Business Developer (part-time)

Alight's purpose is to accelerate the world’s transition to renewable energy sources. We do this by helping businesses switch to solar energy and save money from day 1. Simply put, we finance, build, and manage solar assets, both on-site and off-site, and sell the electricity generated for a fixed price to large corporations in the form of Power Purchase Agreements.

Over the coming years, we will deploy our solar pipeline and invest more than 3 BEUR in solar assets. In this scale-up, we are looking to strengthen our business development and sales team.

Your impact

As a Business Developer, you will join us part-time (16-20 hours per week) to contribute to sales and business development projects in close coordination with Client Executives and other internal stakeholders. The role is split into three pillars which include:

  • Generate business opportunities with large corporate clients across Alight’s markets by researching, qualifying, and reaching out to relevant stakeholders to generate leads
  • Improve Alight’s strategic direction and product development by analyzing Alight’s target solar markets, its conditions, and competitors as well as customer behaviour
  • Contribute to internal development projects related to our products, processes, and tools to help us build capabilities to scale

We’re looking for you

To be a good fit for this role, we believe you are an analytical self-starter who thrives in fast-paced environments. You are comfortable communicating with stakeholders with different backgrounds and seniorities and have experience working in sales, business development, strategy, or similar fields.

You're currently pursuing a degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in engineering, economics, or business. Most likely, you are at the end of your studies and have previous experience successfully managing your studies with other commitments such as part-time work or other engagements outside of your ongoing studies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant ongoing degree in engineering, economics, or business with max 2 years left of your studies
  • Hands-on experience from working in sales/business development/strategy in industrial companies, start/scale-ups, management consulting, or similar industries
  • Highly analytical, both qualitatively and quantitatively
  • Excellent time management skills and experience successfully managing other commitments while studying
  • Strong communication & presentation skills
  • Intellectual curiosity, wanting to learn, test, understand, and develop into a real expert
  • Professional working proficiency in English and Swedish and ability to work, at least partly, on-site from our office in central Stockholm (Tulegatan 11)

Experience working in sales, knowledge of solar energy, and Finnish language skills are meritious but not a requirement for this position!

What's in it for you

You will be part of an entrepreneurial scale-up in a flat, coaching, and knowledge-driven culture with a high degree of autonomy and accountability. Ever since we started, we've defined ourselves as a diverse company with global reach, which means that remote and flexible work is how we operate and our people are at the center of everything.

WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • A workplace with a clear purpose:
    • Decarbonizing the electricity grid is one of the toughest challenges of our time, and solar will play a significant role in the transition to a renewable energy system.
    • Since companies consume ~70% of all electricity in Europe, scaling a business model that enables them to switch to renewable energy quickly and cheaply is key. That is exactly what Alight is doing with its solar-as-a-service offering.
  • A flat and coaching workplace:
    • Alight’s team consists of a blend of previous management consultants and solar experts. You will receive ongoing coaching and an opportunity to shape your future career with an employer that focuses on your personal development.
  • Work with real cases in cross-functional settings:
    • Alight makes a very tangible contribution to fighting climate change. You will be part of deploying solar assets across Europe that have a lifetime of 30+ years and receive exposure to a wide range of departments and external stakeholders.

What's in it for you?

  • At Alight, you’ll make a real, tangible impact on a global scale by accelerating the transition to a fossil fuel-free world. Your work will be more than a job; it will be a meaningful contribution to ensuring the sustainability of our planet.

  • We’re proud to have a flat and autonomous organizational culture where everyone takes accountability for their own work. You'll have the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in Europe, or you can decide to work hybrid/fully onsite at one of our offices in Stockholm, Madrid, Gothenburg, Paris or Malmö. We’ll support your home office setup, including subsidies for equipment like adjustable desks and office chairs.

  • To ensure we attract the best talent out there, we don't limit ourselves to a specific location. Alighters are based across Europe and our diverse backgrounds and skills complement each other well.

We know that having a diverse team drives better collective decisions and superior business performance. Today our gender split is 44/56, with 15 nationalities and employees in 6 countries.

  • At Alight, you’ll be a part of an entrepreneurial culture in which you’re encouraged to “think like an owner,” which means that we trust you to call the shots and excel in your role. Many Alighters are also shareholders, and we believe in giving our employees incentives to create the best possible impact.

Historically we’ve regularly had warrant/option programs that give our employees the option to own a part of Alight. We also give our employees the option to buy shares when the opportunity arises (e.g. when any of our owners sells shares, we're not a listed company).

  • As an Alighter, you’ll have 30 days of paid vacation and the option to exchange public holiday days for other days off. We also offer market-leading insurance programs for all our employees, together with an annual wellness allowance of €500 (5000 SEK).

At our HQ in Stockholm, we also have weekly activities like lunch runs and Thursday yoga sessions.

  • While we take our role in driving the green transition seriously, we know how to have fun. We believe that a positive team spirit enhances our collective impact. Some examples of planned activities are Friday breakfast every second week, Guest lecturers with dinner, team dinners, and sports activities. But there are also a lot of spontaneous activities driven by our employees!

Each quarter we also have "Alight Next," our company-wide meetup, a two-day strategy day with workshops, lectures, and team building in which we focus on the next quarter. We also always have some fun activities planned during those meetup days, examples being ski trips, sailing, dinners, and parties

  • We’re committed to helping you grow and embrace new areas of responsibility, whether vertically or horizontally.

It’s common for our team members to be promoted to leadership roles or transition into entirely new domains. We have structured career coaching, internal training programs, performance reviews, and goal-setting frameworks to help you develop your career.

About Alight

At Alight, we’re on a mission to kick carbon off the grid by helping energy-intensive businesses switch to solar. We develop, own, and operate onsite and offsite solar projects across Europe and sell clean energy to businesses at a low, fixed cost backed by a power purchase agreement (PPA), always independent of government funding or subsidies. By 2030, we aim to have an installed capacity of at least 5 GW, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
