Chemical Process Area Manager
We are now looking for an experienced Chemical/Process Engineering Manager to join us in our mission to contribute to a greener future. The position is within the Cathode Active Material unit of Northvolt, the part of Northvolt producing the cathode material for our cells.
For the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and phase out carbon sources, we need a lot of sustainably produced batteries. To minimise the carbon footprint of these batteries, Northvolt is producing and developing in-house Cathode Active Material (CAM). By joining us, you will be a key player in establishing CAM and contribute to building, starting up and expanding the cathode part of Nortvolt’s first and coming battery factories.
The production of cathode is very much a chemical process. As a Process Area Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of skilled engineers to:
- Establish and execute roadmap to next generation process design for the area you are responsible for.
- Deliver process engineering design within new factory projects.
- Deliver commissioning of new factories and projects.
- Deliver solutions to escalated production concerns and blockers.
You will have responsibility over a team spread across two locations. The Process Engineering team is working both in Västerås and Skellefteå in Sweden. In Västerås, we focus on developing and industrialising Northvolt’s next generation li-ion battery cathode material and process design. In Skellefteå, we have a team that executes and drives the start-up, ramp-up and expansion of the first full-scale Northvolt production plant. You will be responsible for the engineers across these two (and in future maybe more) locations.
Cathode chemistry and processes are complex, meaning both research and production comes with significant challenges. The juggling between detailed technical solutions and practical hands-on solutions is constantly present in a process manager’s work. We are looking for a manager that can handle the complex technical topics that arise with the team, developing the process area design into a world-class blueprint. At the same time, we expect the manager to follow the team getting hands-on in field in the production facility to resolve production process blockers. Are you up for the challenge?
